Don't think it is too much at all. He is paying the fine himself even though vitamin water offered to pay for it. He said he made the mistake end of story. Vitamin water is donating 100,000 in Brian's name to the United Way.
Question, where does the money go that players get fined?

I can't believe that people actually think the fine wasn't warranted. Urlacher wasn't wearing the hat of a charity or non profit entity. It was a company. A company that was probably paying him $$$$ to wear the hat. So, basically he was trying to be a greedy bastard. And the NFL called him on it.
If that company paid him 500,000, should he be fined at least that much?
As it is, I'm sure the company is enjoying all the free publicity. For that reason alone, the NFL might have considered not fining him.

I'm sure that Urlacher was well aware he would be fined if he was trying to promote another company, so its perfectly acceptable.
These guys get paid millions to go along with the rules of the league, as well as playing football. I have no problem with it.

Yes, he asked Adidas to pay the fines for him and they did (free advertising.)
The NFL is pretty strict about advertising and the players all know the consequences. If Urlacher did in fact wear somehthing outside of league rules he deserved the fine but net net he's laughing all the way to the bank (and should be).
Oh.....and he's still the best linbacker in football. He He.

What does it matter how much someone makes when considering the fine? That should have nothing to do with it. Should a rich person have to pay more for his groceries? For his gasoline? Speeding tickets?
And, as far as the fine goes, if Brian Urlacher (or any other player) doesn't like it, they can go play in a football league where they can wear their own hats. Or get a real job.
