METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints are interested in dealing for a draft pick higher than their current No. 10 slot in the first round and have had informal talks with other teams.
"We've talked to a number of teams in front of us about the possibility of moving forward. It's all preliminary discussion," general manager Mickey Loomis said on Tuesday. "We've just expressed a desire to talk about it with a number of teams."

I think it is a pretty stupid rule that the NFL will not allow the second team in the draft to negotiate with a player even though the #1 pick has been signed to a contract. I think after this draft they might rethink that rule. Why should only the first team drafting have that privilege? What difference would it make if the second-team also reached a contract agreement with their pick prior to the draft... makes no sense to me.

less drama and suspense on draft day equals less viewers, I'm surprised they let teams negotiate with the first overall pick and let that cat out of the bag

I know that crossed my mind but St. Louis is getting screwed this year if they end up with a holdout.

Way to go, Dennis Dixon!
Is Manningham a surprise to anyone? I mean, really. Guy is as dumb as a box of rocks.
