Seems that Herschel Walker suffers from multiple personality disorder.

Ex-NFL star Herschel Walker reveals in upcoming book he has multiple personalities
January 18, 2008
ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia football great Herschel Walker has multiple personalities -- a revelation in an upcoming book that surprises the man who coached the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner.
"That's all news to me," former Georgia coach Vince Dooley said in Friday editions of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "All I know is whatever personality he had when he had the football was the one I liked."
"Breaking Free" will chronicle Walker's life with multiple personality disorder, according to Shida Carr, a publicist at Simon & Schuster.
Carr said the book will be published in August, but gave no other details and declined to provide excerpts.

So you're trying to tell me that his coach didn't realize that his star player had a personality disorder!

You ever meet anyone with confirmed multiple personality disorder?
It's actually dissociative identity disorder and it isn't as easy to spot as some might think.

I haven't but I have learned quite a bit about it. However my initial surprise (the second post was a joke ) was more about the fact that it seems odd that a parent-figure wouldn't know about something that important. You'd think someone would have told him or something. If Beanie had dissociative identity disorder and Tressel had no idea, I think that'd be ridiculously strange.

Heh, I knew the second one was a joke.
It's something that the sufferers learn to hide. Even from parents or parental figures. If he had learned to deal with his everyday life, and football, without having episodes, he probably would have felt very strongly about not telling anyone. It has a lot of social stigma attached to it due to the sensationalization of the disorder when it wasn't well understood.
I would be interested in reading his book and finding out if it's something he shared with anyone at all.
