Tucker likes new pieces
Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
03.03.2008
As a first-year NFL defensive coordinator, Mel Tucker doesn't have another day to compare with last Friday.
But another day -- Christmas -- certainly comes to mind.
Tucker's gifts came in the rather large form of two talented defensive linemen acquired via trade, Corey Williams from the Packers and Shaun Rogers from the Lions. Both should figure prominently in Tucker's plans to fix the Browns' run defense and upgrade the defense as a whole.
"I've said before that coaches, we just coach," Tucker said. "Phil (Savage) and his staff, they do an outstanding job evaluating players and doing everything they can to get us players we need to be successful.

Brown getting high marks
Steve King, Staff Writer
03.03.2008
Someday soon, the Browns want to stand alone atop the NFL.
But in one respect at least, that might have already happened.
The Browns have been arguably the biggest player in the league in free agency since it began at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
It started about four and a half hours later when they were able to come to an agreement with restricted free agent quarterback Derek Anderson for him to remain with the Browns. He eventually signed a three-year deal.
It continued with the Browns trading away their second-round pick in this year's NFL Draft to the Green Bay Packers for defensive lineman Corey Williams.

Looks like the Browns will be signing another DE/DT in William Joseph. Good addition IMO. Sound slike they'll ge thim on the cheap, and he's a former first round pick. Been plagued by injuries throughout his career, including a gun-shot wound. He was fantastic at the U.

The Cleveland Browns are showing interest in free agent defensive tackle William Joseph, who will visit with the team on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-5, 308-pound Joseph was the Giants' first-round draft pick in 2003 and has undeniable talent. But he's been plagued by injuries throughout his career, and he missed all of 2007 with a back injury.
For the Browns, signing Joseph would be another move to bolster their defensive line, and a much less costly move than the trades for defensive tackles Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers. Although Joseph has mostly been a tackle during his NFL career, he's a versatile enough athlete that he could be a good fit as a 3-4 end in the Browns' scheme.

Maybe Da Solja will be able to keep him on the field?

Browns' Rogers not looking back Defensive lineman hopes to leave past, losing behind
By Marla Ridenour
Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Wednesday, Mar 05, 2008
BEREA: To Shaun Rogers, Detroit might as well be Las Vegas.
The massive defensive tackle acquired Friday in a trade with the Lions comes to Cleveland looking for a fresh start. He wants to forget his well-documented problems of the past seven years ? the battle with his weight, inconsistent play, a refusal to talk to the media and the allegation that he groped a woman in a strip club last June, entering her dressing room with a gun in his belt.
''Whatever happened in the past stays in the past,'' said Rogers, sounding like he'd just left Vegas. ''I'm excited to be here and get a new look, develop a new reputation and just move on.''
