Experts, coaches don't see a QB controversy

Palm Beach, Fla. -- In Cleveland, the debate between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn no doubt will burn hot for another year at least.
But coaches and personnel experts interviewed this week at NFL league meetings were unanimous in saying the Browns have done the right thing with their quarterbacks.
"Obviously, the bold move they made a year ago paid off for them," Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said.
"I'm talking about putting Anderson in and trading Charlie [Frye] and moving on. I think with the other 52 guys -- or 51, because I don't know that Brady's fine with it -- they know who their quarterback is. That's a huge step for a football team. You have to make that step to win."
Nobody here expressed the opinion that signing Anderson to a three-year deal after trading a No. 1 to select Quinn the year before automatically creates a quarterback controversy.

Cleveland Browns host linebacker Bell

UNLV linebacker Beau Bell will make a pre-draft visit to the Browns on Thursday, April 3, the linebacker said Wednesday.
"I'm excited,'' said Bell, 6-1, 244. "It's my first visit, so I'm really looking forward to it. Teams are only allowed (20) visits, so I really appreciate the Browns making me one of theirs.''

Bell, projected to go in about the third or fourth round, is one of the players the Browns are considering with their fourth-round pick -- their first selection in this draft. They first became intrigued with Bell during the 2006 season when they scouted UNLV cornerback Eric Wright, whom they drafted with second-round pick in 2007.

Alright, so according to the picks we have and our needs - I've formulated this from what I've seen.

4th Round - Larry Grant OLB THE Ohio State University

5th Round - Steve Allen ILB West Texas A&M

6th Round - Orlando Scandrick CB Boise State

7th Round - I'm not sure, another Corner perhaps? or an off type of pick maybe? If Saint-dic is available I'd say sure, but who knows whats going to be left this late in the game.

After traveling the country side looking for some players the Browns might select the following in Rounds 4-7. If Larry Grant is still there in Round 7, they might take a strong look at him.

ILB - Tavares Gooden - Miami
RB - Allen Patrick - Oklahoma

Cleveland Browns announce preseason games

The Browns will face the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants in a nationally televised preseason game, the team announced today.
The Browns opponents for the 2008 preseason were announced today by the NFL. Dates and times will be announced at a later date.
The game against the Giants will be in New York on Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.
The Browns open the preseason at home against the New York Jets and will conclude the preseason with a home game against the Chicago Bears. In week three the Browns will take on the Lions in Detroit.
The NFL preseason begins in Canton on Aug. 3 with Indianapolis facing Washington in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame game (NBC, 8 p.m.). The Hall of Fame inductions are Aug. 2.

As expected, Commissioner Roger Goodell's proposal to change the playoff seeding format went down in flames. Owners did not even formally vote. A show of hands indicated little support. The Browns were against the proposal because it would result in a division winner possibly playing on the road against a wild card team in the playoffs.
The proposal was intended to make late season games more meaningful. But owners were more worried about the ramifications in the playoffs.
Goodell and the competition committee may introduce a different proposal in the future to somehow discourage tanking games in the regular season.
Other changes were approved by the owners.
* The forceout rule was eliminated.
* Field goals and extra points will be subject to replay review, except for kicks that officials say passed over the upright.
* Teams can now defer the opening coin toss and choose to receive or defend the goal in the second half.
* The 5-yard facemask penalty was eliminated.
There was no action taken on calling a timeout an instant before a field goal is attempted. Coaches felt that this practice, popular early last season, will lose its appeal over time.

Bengals, Browns land Monday night matchups

The NFL released its preseason schedule Thursday.
The Bengals travel to Green Bay for the first ESPN Monday night game of the preseason Aug. 11. The next two weekends, the Bengals host the Detroit Lions and the New Orleans Saints before finishing the preseason in Indianapolis against the Colts the weekend of Aug. 29-31.

The Browns' 10-6, near-miss playoff campaign in 2007 was expected to bring national television exposure.
So preseason Monday Night Football might be the tip of the iceberg.
The release of the NFL's regular-season schedule could be at least a week away, but the Browns will play before a national audience Aug. 18 when they visit the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
The 8 p.m. game will be televised on ESPN.

The Browns will give the nation a preview of how they stack up against the defending Super Bowl champions on Aug. 18 when they visit the New York Giants for a preseason game on ESPN's Monday Night Football.
The Browns, who also will host the Giants during the regular season, open their four-game preseason schedule sometime between Aug. 7 and Aug. 11 at home against the Jets, whom they defeated last season, 24-18.
In Week Three, sometime between Aug. 21 and 25, the Browns will travel to Detroit for the annual Great Lakes Classic. It will mark the first time Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers and Lions cornerback Leigh Bodden - swapped in an off-season trade - will face their former teams.

Savage says Browns are ready for prime time
But don't expect Thanksgiving night game just yet

Phil Savage doubts the Browns will be assigned a Thanksgiving night game, but the general manager sounds certain his team will play in prime time for the first time since 2005.

Of reports the Browns might draw a Thanksgiving assignment, Savage said, "I don't know that we're at the top of that list. I know we were under consideration for it, perhaps."

Speaking this morning on the team's AM radio flagship, WTAM, Savage added: "I do think we'll get a Sunday night game, which is now the feature game of the week moreso than Monday night."

The league is expected to announce its complete prime-time schedule soon, with the full schedule to be released on another day in the near future.

The better question is what the hell was he doing in a police department parking lot causing a disturbance which would have to make him run from the donut guys in the first place. He is a backup CB with the Browns but he might not be with the Browns for very long with Savage's reputation.

Bolded is really what I want to know. If you're going to cause a disturbance, what a terrible place to do it.
