Browns will see a lot of Monday play this season
Cleveland now ready for prime time
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
BY Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER
BEREA It's out. It's wild.
The Browns, snubbed to the tune of eight night national TV games in nine years, were assigned five such games for 2008 when the NFL released its schedule Tuesday.
Browns owner Randy Lerner could only guess recently whether the networks would judge his team ready for prime time.
"Look," he said then, "we played hard. We won games. I think we're a worthwhile team to watch, and therefore, I think we'll get that kind of attention."
But this kind of attention? Who knew?
The Browns were assigned:

Palmer: Browns aren't ready for prime time
By Chick Ludwig
Staff Writer
Thursday, April 17, 2008
CINCINNATI ? Quarterback Carson Palmer tossed another log onto the "Battle of Ohio" fire on Wednesday, April 16, just to stoke the rivalry's flames in the offseason.
He saw Cleveland's 2008 schedule and noticed the Browns were awarded a franchise-record five nationally-televised games.
Palmer wondered what the Browns did to deserve all the prime-time exposure.
"I was as shocked as anybody to see that because they're still a ways away from being a ..."
Palmer's voice tailed off.

Browns will wait until late in draft General manager says team won't trade up, but wants cornerback
By Patrick McManamon
Beacon Journal sports columnist
Published on Thursday, Apr 17, 2008
BEREA: Looking for an inkling to the Browns' draft plans?
Think late round, and think cornerback.
Those are the major hints that Browns General Manager Phil Savage gave at his annual pre-draft news conference Wednesday.
Savage maintained his stance that he does not see the Browns trading up into the first day of the draft, and he said he hopes to find a cornerback.
''Obviously, it's a position that we're going to be interested in,'' Savage said.
Savage's draft discussion had a bizarre element to it. The Browns are without a pick in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft on April 26-27 because of trades for quarterback Brady Quinn and defensive linemen Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers.
But Savage ? a guy who built his resume on the way he picked players in the draft ? still dissected the draft position by position, listing the top players at each position even though he concedes that the Browns won't be picking any of them.

Cleveland Browns' draft-day strategy: sit and wait
Thursday, April 17, 2008Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
Don't expect one last surprise from Phil Savage on draft day.
The Browns general manager has nothing up his sleeves to improve on the team's first draft position of No. 122 overall in the fourth round.
"We're kind of content just sitting where we are," Savage said Wednesday at his annual pre-draft news conference.
 But what if . . .
Some team makes an unex pected trade of fer for quarter back Derek Anderson?
"I don't think anybody's going to call," Savage said. "I think they know he's off the table this year."
A highly rated player so entices Savage that he considers trading a 2009 draft pick to move up?
"I can't even create a circumstance in my mind that would get us into the top 63 picks," he said. "We've kind of eliminated that from our thought process. We're going to watch the draft like any observer of the NFL would and see how our board holds up."
