Rogers is a crybaby. He seems like the kind of player that needs a change of scenery every year to be effective. And even at that, he only plays at a high level for the first three quarters. He disappears the last 15 minutes... probably because he's so fat and out of shape.

I'm happy to see Mangini laying down the law early. I sure hope Braylon is watching.

CLEVELAND -- Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers has formally asked to be traded or released by the Browns and isn't likely to change his mind, a source close to Rogers said.

Browns coach Eric Mangini has been trying to call the disgruntled tackle, but it's not yet known if the two have talked. Chances are, it wouldn't do much good anyway.

A Browns souurce said neither Rogers nor his representative have made any demands. Mangini did not immidiately respond to a request to be interviewed.

Rogers is miffed not just about being snubbed by Mangini on two occasions, but also by a directive he received from an unknown club official regarding the offseason weight program.
Despite playing all last season at his required weight -- which was listed at 350 --Rogers was told by the Browns not to bother showing up for the offseason program on March 16th unless he was at a prescribed weight.

The mandate angered Rogers because he was in compliance with his weight all last season. What's more, he played on a sore knee much of the year and with a sore shoulder for most of the second half. He left one game with a neck stinger and returned, never missing any time because of the injuries.

Rogers came to Cleveland with a reputation for his weight ballooning in the second half of seasons, especially in 2007 when it was said that he ran out of gas. That never happened here. In fact, Rogers played some of his best ball down the stretch in 2008, despite the fact the Browns were out of the playoff hunt and in disarray.

Eric Mangini, in the best-case scenario, comes off in the latest Browns flap as sort of an ambulatory Mr. Oblivion. We are asked to believe he was unaware of the presence of Shaun Rogers, who weighs 360 pounds, at various functions around Berea and Cleveland.
Is Mangini working on being colossally uncommunicative with his players, as well as the media? The media fans don't care about. But how did someone so heedless of simple personal interaction so wow Randy Lerner that the reclusive owner felt no need to interview anyone else?

Did I mention that Rogers was the Browns' best player last season? That he had been rejuvenated after his career was in a downward spiral in Detroit? That he played his butt off for the Browns last season at nose tackle? It is a position Bob Golic, a veteran of the interior line wars, likened to "the fire hydrant at a dog show."
The Dawgs who were the farthest from matching Rogers' Pro Bowl-worthy efforts were the linebackers. The Browns need to chase Shaun Rogers off, although he is said to want out after Mangini's snubs, like they need former mega-flop coach Butch Davis to draft more guys that he tried to recruit at The U.
Rogers might not have needed "stroking," which means "flattery" in sports circles. But he did need to know he was appreciated and respected by the new head coach. Even if Rogers, again, the best player on the team last season, did need a dollop of flattery, so what?

The curious case of Laveranues Coles has some insiders in New York wondering if he's on his way to Miami or Cleveland as a free agent.
The Jets' receiver forfeited a guaranteed base salary of $6 million to void the last year of his contract and become a free agent. The thinking in New York is that Coles must have something lined up to give up $6 million.
The logical landing spot would be Miami, where Coles' good friend, Chad Pennington, is the starting quarterback. Coles also is a native of Jacksonville, Fla. Miami, of course, will be a lot warmer than Meadowlands, N.J., in December..
How does Cleveland fit into this equation?

Coles and current Browns coach Eric Mangini were tight. When Coles chafed for a new contract last year, Mangini pacified him in a surprise visit to his home and then had the remaining base salaries in his deal guaranteed.
Later, Coles was so distraught that the Jets dumped Pennington in preseason after trading for Brett Favre that he barely talked to Favre for a large part of the season. It was commonly believed that Mangini also was against the Favre trade, so he and Coles bonded over that issue.
Coles is 31 and is no longer the burner he was coming out of Florida State in 2000. (He surely outlived his more heralded teammate, Peter Warrick, as a pro.) He would fit in Cleveland as a No. 2 receiver, clearly ahead of Donte Stallworth, whose insane contract forces the Browns to keep him another year.

I disagree with Bill Livingston 100%.

You're making how much money after your career was in a "downward spiral" (Livingston's words) in Detroit of all places and you need the coach to kiss your ass? How the [censored] can your career be in a downward spiral in Detroit??? You can't go down from sucking in Detroit.

Mangini is there to win games. Rogers is there to play. Romeo was a great guy and the players loved him. Why? Because he was their buddy. Hopefully Mangini is bringing a bit of an attitude to Cleveland.

I say give Rogers what he wants. Trade him. You know why? Because anyone that gets this bent out of shape about the coach not saying hello to him is a [censored]ing baby. How is a baby going to react? He's not going to play hard. Get his fat ass out of Cleveland.

Hey Braylon...you may be on the next train out as well. Just give us a reason!!!!!!!!

Bill Livingston is lucky his job doesn't carry a weight requirement...his tubby @$$ would've been canned years ago.

While I agree that Rogers was the Browns best player last year and he did a heck of a job, he should have enough self respect and respect for his employer to not balloon up during the off season. It just makes it harder for him during doubles, creating additional risk for injury.

Whatever happened to the phrase "Win The Off Season?" Apparently that went out the window when these guys got their multi-million dollar paycheck.

I would be shocked if this Rogers issue is nothing more than him really wanting to see a new contract. He knew Haynesworth was going to get some serious bank and sees this as a chance to cash in on a pro-bowl season.

It will be interesting how this gets solved cuz there is NO WAY the Browns release him.

Waters, KC's pro bowl RG is saying that he wants released or traded because apparently Haley and Pioli haven't met with him either. so, Rogers is certainly not unique in this capacity.

maybe is has something to do with the fact that both know that they will never get traded, but should they bitch their way into a release, would make a ton on the FA market.

The combine and the rumblings now after the combine has really hurt the Browns draft position. The guy that I would love the Browns to take seems to be slated going #1 or #2 (Curry) While the Buckeye homer in me says the combine means nothing regarding Jenkins, the fact is it does. Can the Browns justify taking Jenkins now at #5? Browne had a so-so combine and makes one remember Wimbley. Rey had a bad combine too and actually might be more available closer to our 2nd round pick. Beanie didn't run a good enough number to warrant the Browns picking him at #5.

If they don't think they have a good value pick at 5, they can/should trade down and get better value + another pick. There are some teams who would like to move up for Raji (Browns might want to take him if Rodgers leaves).

There's good value in the second round/late first for needs that the Browns have. There are quite a few corners and safeties, and some pretty good-looking LBers. A few that I like who aren't being mentioned too much are Clint Sintim (OLB), Patrick Chung (S), Louis Delmas (S). Good prospects that will probably go in the second.. if they can trade down a bit and still get one of their top guys.. do it.

nothing but posturing. curry will be on the board at #3. Either stafford and brown or brown and monroe will be the first 2 picks.
