His two punt return game against the Steelers is my favorite Browns memory, and the last time I remember being happy at the end of a game against [censored]burgh.

Metcalf was alright. Metcalf up the middle on 3rd and 8 used to drive me nuts as he was about 190 lbs. soaking wet and holding a brick.

He showed flashes, but wasn't anything more than a decent return man.

I will agree with you that sometimes the "coaching staff" utilized Metcalf with wrong plays in wrong situations but I have to disagree with you with regard to the fact that Metcalf was just a "decent" return man. I think when it came to punts it was one of the better ones in the NFL. He also would have had a Latin more yardage if they would have utilized him more on swing passes and other plays that would have gotten him to the outside. He still lives in Cleveland so he still is a Cleveland Brown

3. Cleveland -- I talked to one league observer this week who believes Eric Mangini is temperamentally a much better fit in Cleveland than he was under the unforgiving bright lights of New York, and that will translate into a decent shot of having early success. I tend to agree the intense, ultra-focused Mangini will bring a sense of discipline and diligence to a Browns team that was a chaotic mess last season, just as he quickly injected the Jets with renewed purpose as a rookie head coach in 2006.
Mangini should also benefit from inheriting a defense whose players were picked to suit the 3-4 formation he runs. After all, Mangini has experience at taking over a Romeo Crennel defense and winning with it, just as he did in New England in 2005. We're also counting on Mangini's New York tenure to teach him something about what does and doesn't work in the NFL. Our gut tells us he'll be a better, more seasoned head coach this time, with a better radar for separating the important from the non-essential parts of the job. It doesn't hurt a bit that he and Browns owner Randy Lerner already have a well-formed friendship.

I don't know about winning from Day 1, we'll see what they do in the draft and in FA. Big upgrades are needed in several spots. Then again, he did turn around a bad Jets team in year 1, so who knows.

I'd take Bodden back in a heartbeat unless the Browns draft Jenkins. If not I say try to bring him in to play opposite of Wright.

I think the biggest need is at linebacker both ILB and OLB. We definitely need another guy on the inside and we might need to replace both OLB's. Wembley made no improvement from year one to year two and we sure as hell cannot count on Hall to be a starter.

I've said it before, but this Browns team has talent where you need it to be good in the long run.

I like Brady Quinn as a QB. An anchor in Joe Thomas at LT and a gifted TE in K2. A run stuffer in Shaun Rogers right in the middle of the D.

A good young secondary (IIRC the Browns D led the league in takeaways).

They need a LB and they need a playmaker on O. Braylon Edwards is [censored], although he playing for a contract this year so who knows. If he can keep his head in the game he is definitely a threat.

I don't think Jamal Lewis has much left in the tank but he could surprise me.

I'd put CB much higher on that list. Much higher. I want Malcolm Jenkins in a Browns uniform badly.

We need a RT before a RG. Tucker is getting old and Sheaffer is weak. We also need an DE who can rush the passer. They would be three and four on my list and then get another DB. Then I would start with #3 on your list. We also need a RB before a QB. Never mind, we need lots of things.

I agree. Take care of LB with FA and draft MJ. Trade Anderson/KW2/Edwards for Calvin Johnson and a second round pick. That way Detroit gets instant offense and the Browns get the game breaking WR that Edwards would be if he could catch the damn ball. Use the 2 second rounders for guys who can play right away at the other need positions.

The Oakland Raiders claimed quarterback Bruce Gradkowski off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.

Gradkowski appeared in two games for Cleveland last season, starting the season finale against Pittsburgh.

Maybe they would give us their #1 round draft choice for Anderson if they need QBs so badly. Al Davis would like the mad bomber.

Seriously this team needs LBs in the worst way, basically a whole new starting LC corp. Free agency can grab 1-2 LBs, but we also need to draft one, two... 4-5. Curry is #1 on my draft board and from all accounts he should be there for us to take and be the best value.

Wanting Jenkins is nothing more than the homer in all of us. While grabbing another CB would be nice, this team has more pressing needs. Besides all 4 LB positions this teams needs RG/RT, a 2nd WR (or a #1 WR if Edwards is dealt) a RB to take over for Lewis when he proves he is toast and might as well add a few more WRs as after Edwards we have nothing. And some young DEs.

This team would probable be better off grabbing a veteran CB versus drafting one high.

I like the way you think. Addition through subtraction, however, I think we could squeeze another draft pick away from Detroit (maybe a 4th rounder) with KW II involved in the trade.

My Ideal Draft would be:

#5 - Curry or Maualuga (trade down to get him)
#36 - Sintim (DE) or Byrd or Harris (CB)
#100 - Scott (DE)
#164 - Tyrell Sutton (ATH)

Now if we trade Anderson/KWII/Braylon to Detroit for Calvin Johnson, a 2nd and 5th rounder. This is what I would do.

#5 - Curry or Maualuga (LB) (trade down to get him) (NEED)
#33 (from Detroit) - Smith (CB) (NEED) or Wells or Moreno (RB) (2RB system)
#36 - Sintim (DE) or Byrd or Harris (CB) (NEED)
#100 - Scott (DE) (NEED)
#129 (from Detroit) - Beckum (TE) (NEED)
#164 - Pat White (Ath/QB) (NEED)

and C. Johnson in the trade. Pretty darn good draft day IMO

Damn it would be fun being a GM before and during draft day.
