I like that move. I know everybody that comes out of Texas Tech is viewed as a "system QB", but I think Harrell could've been a legit QB under any coach in college. I'd love to see him earn the No. 3 spot behind Ratliff and see Anderson traded.

I thought that the Jets defense was much better than that rating, considering the situations that Favre put them in. I guess we'll see.

the jets were 3rd in the nfl with 31 giveaways, 23 coming via interception.

they were also one of the worst against the pass, but in the top 10 in sacks and top 10 against the run, which smells of a poor secondary. but, by the same token, they were one of the worst defensively in terms of number of plays.

to me, that smells of having a decent defense, but an offense that puts you in bad spots far too often.

I will be the first to admit that I was very skeptical of the new regime and was even more so after they selected Mack in the first round but looking back at what they have done in free-agent signings and with the draft I think that they deserve a chance. They certainly have bolstered the roster and the OL should be solid for the next 3-4 years with the possible exception of needing to add a RT.

They have added quite a few DL's in free agency so that should not be a position of need for a while unless some guys start complaining about playing time and their contracts.

While like most of you, I was very pleased to see them get a guy like Davis in the sixth round. I think his stock fell a little bit last year because he did not get as much playing time because of Spiller. He is a little on the smallest side so that is probably still a position of need because Davis cannot be and every down back. He almost reminds me of Harrison but I think Davis might have a little more power.

I still think they need to find a OLB who can rush the passer but I don't know what the guys from Hawaii or USC will bring to the table along with Bowens. The same holds true in the defensive backfield while we have picked up some guys I am not quite sure how much they will bring to the table. I also think we need to upgrade our WR's a little more.

With the additions from free agency and the draft, I certainly can see an improvement coming next year and it even gives me some hope for following years. There are still some question marks but I think we have bolstered the roster up big-time compared to last year. I also like the quality of the guys that they have brought in.

And finally, screw Sanchez.

Veikune (Hawaii) is supposed to fill that role...we'll see.
Maiava (USC) at ~5'11" 230lbs is an ILB all the way.

The Cleveland Browns fourth-round pick, Kaluka Maiava, is not your typical linebacker at 5-11 and 229 pounds. There was a report that Maiava may have to move to strong safety but Browns coach Eric Mangini, according to a story in The Maui News, wants him to remain at linebacker.

Veteran receiver Bennett to visit Cleveland Browns

CLEVELAND -- Veteran wide receiver Drew Bennett, formerly of the Rams, will visit the Browns on Wednesday in hopes of signing with the team, a source close to the situation said.

Bennett (6-5, 196) was originallly signed as a free agent with the Titans out UCLA in 2001 and spent six seasons in Tennessee. He led the team with 46 catches in 2006 and a 16.0-yard average. In 2004, he tied an NFL record with eight TDs in a three-game span.

Bennett signed with the Rams as a free agent in 2007, but never panned out there. He caught 33 passes for 375 yards and 3 TDs in '07 and broke his leg in the 2008 opener, missing the rest of the season.

Browns acquire linebacker Ruud

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns acquired linebacker Bo Ruud off waivers from the New England Patriots on Thursday.
The team also released running back Allen Patrick.
A sixth-round draft pick from Nebraska last year, Ruud spent his 2008 rookie season on New England's injured list with an ankle injury.

Browns coach Eric Mangini tells all rookies the same thing: "It doesn't matter how you got here, it just matters what you do."
Guys like sixth-round pick Coye Francies and undrafted Akron kick returner Bryan Williams will be happy to discover at Browns rookie camp today that they'll be given as much of a shot to make the team as first-round pick, center Alex Mack.
"Once they're in the door, no matter where they were drafted, how they were drafted, everybody is equal and we'll judge them based on what they do," said coach Eric Mangini on Sunday night after the draft. "[When] we go into the rookie weekend, I tell them all the same thing: It doesn't matter how you got here, it just matters what you do."
Mangini cited the case of Jets special teams ace Wallace Wright, who tried out during the Jets' rookie camp in 2006 after going undrafted out of North Carolina.
"The guy comes in, he's literally on a three-day job interview, five practices in three days, and he was good enough to take somebody's contract at that point," said Mangini. "He made the roster initially, went to the practice squad, and made the roster the next year. He's becoming a better and better special teams player and developing into a nice receiver as well. The great thing is the opportunity just to get in the door. Once they're here, they're all Browns."

And my sources in Cleveland tell me that Eric Steinbach is in deep trouble. Eric Mangini likes big, bruising maulers on the offensive line.

Steinbach doesn?t fit the mold. He?s more finesse. I look for Steinbach to get released after the 2009 season. If fact, with his fat contract, he?ll be fortunate to make the 53-man roster. Don?t be shocked if he gets terminated before the ?09 opener.

1. chick ludwig was, is, and always will be a cinci honk. he has no sources in cleveland.

2. this guy threw a fit when cinci let steinbach sign with cleveland.

3. there is no way, shape, or form, save for steinbach pulling a stallworth or getting a limb cut off, that he is not a brown this season.

4. being labelled as a "technician" vs. a "mauler" does not make you a finesse OL.

No way they can let Steinbach go this year. They have no other guards on the roster who are even close to his talent level. Even if you like the mauler type, you have to go with the technician when there is such a large talent gap. Also, I'm not sure how much there really is to Mangini only liking maulers considering he took D'Brickashaw Ferguson early in the 1st when he was with the Jets.

I can't understand why the coaching staff is so high on Jackson because he certainly doesn't bring the load that I would like to see a inside linebacker in the NFL bring. I think he is a little undersized but does have good football savvy. Let's hope that kid from USC bulks a little bit and does not lose speed while doing so.

It is always nice to bring my fellow Browns fans out of the woodwork by posting a nugget or two. I was going to post something about the Georgia WR but I like him and don't why you guys to take him to task
