I'd rather take the sure bet on Malcolm, know he's going to be productive, b/c almost every first CB off of the board in the last 7-10 years has produced, and grab a FA LB who already knows how to play in a 3-4 defense. And CB is abolutely a position of need. Our secondary has been horrid. Drafting Malcolm is like drafting for 2 positions b/c you also have your new nickle-back in Brandon McDonald or Eric Wright. And it'd be huge to have a CB on the field at all times that can tackle. McDonald and Wright are such awful tacklers and outside runs could go to either side of the field without any concern for who was out there. Last edited by billmac91; 02-12-2009 at 04:58 PM. |

IMO Detroit would not even consider any trade for Calvin Johnson period unless it involved like two firsts and a proven player. He is just too good, its not going to happen.

Are there legs to this Calvin Johnson thing or is it just wishful thinking? I feel like I've heard this more than a few times.
Agree. |

I have to disagree. Even though I love Malcom we cannot expect any CB to cover a NFL WR if we do not get a pass rush. If Curry it is not available at #5 from everything that I have read we would take Brown out of FSU or O... out of Texas. I have seen where Curry might not only be able to play OLB but also might be able to play ILB. Hopefully, Smith, DB, Utah will be available when the Browns pick in the second round if we are unable to draft down.
I have also seen some mocks saying that if Green, Iowa is available in the second round we should take a good look at him but I think we need to spend the first two rounds on defense unless we get some additional picks. We do not have much cap space so the number of quality FAs and that we will be able to bring in will be minimal. |

Wishful thinking. No way is Detroit trading away a cornerstone player for a busted QB, stonehands and a bunch of other spare parts.

Didn't figure. Now I just wonder why I keep hearing it (not only on BP, I hear it in RL too).

Browns fans can be pretty delusional. It's not like we have much to celebrate on the field, so we concoct different trade scenarios to keep the bad thoughts away.

I think organizations that don't have their heads up their rear ends stand just as good a chance of finding good LBs in rounds 2-5 as they do in the first round. I'm not sure I can say the same about CBs of Jenkins' caliber. Heck, I'd draft him based on this: Shawn Springs, Antoine Winfield, Ahmed Plummer, Nate Clements & Chris Gamble. You don't often find a dud when you pick Ohio State's best CB. |

2. deangelo hall, dunta robinson, pac man jones and antrel rolle say hello. there hasn't been a cb in the top 10 of the draft since the latter two 2 were picked. 3. the earliest any cb has been taken in the draft in the last 3 years has been #11. There have been 4 safeties taken in the top 10 in that time. in fact you have to got back to dallas picking terence newman at #5 in 2003 to find a top 10 cb that has been anything short of a failure. 4. cleveland cannot stop the run or rush the qb. adding a cb is a band-aid on a bullet wound for that defense. 5. given 1-4, taking a cb at #5 is not a good move to put it politely. |

PacMan is not the best way to support that argument. He's an excellent player and from that standpoint was very much worth the high pick used on him. He just has a 10-cent head. He wouldn't have got this many chances if he wasn't good.
I certainly don't think the Browns should look past a player like Jenkins because PacMan is a dumbass. |

It seemed that happened a heck of alot more than a quick pass where our CB was beaten. |

2000 - Ahmed Plummer 2001 - Nate Clements, Will Allen, 2002 - Quentin Jammer, Phillip Buchanon, Lito Sheppard, Mike Rumpf 2003 - Terrance Newman, Marcus Trufant, Andre Woolfolk, Sammy Davis, Nnambi Asomugha 2004 - DeAngelo Hall, Dunta Robertson, Ahmad Carrol, Chris Gamble 2005 - Adam Jones, Antrel Rolle, Carlos Rogers, Fabian Washington, Marlin Jackson 2006 - Tye Hill, Antonio Cromartie, Jonathon Joseph, Kelly Jennings 2007 - Darrelle Revis, Leon Hall, Aaron Ross 2008 - Leodis McKelvin, Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, Aqib Talib, Mike Jenkins, Antoine Cason I don't see too many flat out busts on that list. And the guys that did bust, didn't lack the ability, they lacked it between the ears. Malcolm isn't lacking anything between the ears, and is about as high character as you can get. In the case of Antrel Rolle, he's become a solid safety....something Jenkins can do if necessary, although he's going to be a stud. I'm all for Malcolm, a big name LB in Free Agency, and sliding McDonald down to Nickel. I'd really rather not have to teach a rookie our LB scheme, and maybe have to sit him a year like Vernon, when you can get production tomorrow out of Malcolm. I can also see the other side of this argument, I'd just rather take a CB and turn an awful unit into something decent in 1 pick. Malcolm can do that. |
