The Buffalo Bills

do we have any bills fans in here???
also does anyone think that they have a chance to make the playoffs. they play the browns 49ers bengals and steelers. but the steelers game is the last game of the season so they could be resting their players. i understand that this will be big time biased towards either the browns or bengals but if i can get someones honest opinion.
thanks

Hi korchicki,

Welcome aboard...I gre up about 2 hours away from Buffalo in Western NY,so I am very familiar with the Bills. I was around for their glory years, and I must say Jim Kelly is one of the nicest and most gracious players I have ever met.

As for this season, first off unfortunately they are in the wrong conference. If they were in the NFC, they would be hands-on-favorites to make the playoffs, but they are in the tough AFC. I have to say I'm impressed with the roll they've been on, and are showing significant signs of life for the first time in several seasons. They are 6-6, and right now the 2 Wild Card teams would be the Jets at 9-3, who they have no chance of catching, and Baltimore/Denver, who are both 7-5 and struggling, whom they could catch. I like their chances a whole lot against Cleveland, considering they might be starting McCown again and they just got demolished, this weekend. That puts them at 7-6. The 49ers they should be able to sneeze and beat, especially if Rattay and Barlow don't play like they won't this week, so that moves them to 8-6. The other 2 games are more dicey. The trip to Cincy in week 15 will probably make or break the season for them. Cincy is also showing some signs of life, especially in the passing game, and that could be a tough matchup. If they lose that one, they are 8-7 and entertain Pittsburgh, who will not be resting anybody unless either they or NE go on a losing streak, because right now both are 11-1 and battling for home field advantage. So, you have to think they are 8-7 pending the Bengal game. If they win that one and can go 9-7, then let's see:

Denver (7-5) has Miami (8-5), at KC (8-6), at Tennessee (8-7), and Colts (8-8); I see that as being no better than 9-7, but probably 9-7

Baltimore (7-5) has NYGiants (8-5), at Colts (8-6), at Pitt (8-7), Miami (9-7); probable 9-7

Jax (6-6) has Chicago (7-6), at GB (7-7), Houston (8-7), at Oakland (9-7); probable 9-7

Cincy (6-6) has at NE (6-7), Buffalo (6-8), NYGiants (7-8), at Phily (7-9); probable 8-8 or 7-9

So basically, if they can stop the run and controlthe Cincy game, they'll be right there at the end, but they need to win 3/4 to get to 9-7, where there will be some tie-breaker system that I know nothing about to figure out who gets the last spot.

That's what I see anyway.

I'm a big Bills fan and have been ever since I was a few years old. I was born and raised in Ohio, about an hour from Cleveland, but I think I was drawn to the Bills at a young age because I liked their helmets and I also like buffaloes. I know it's a silly reason, but when you're a little kid you like things for reason that later turn out to be silly. I concur with the "Bills can make the playoffs" sentiment. If you look at the schedule they should win at home this week against Cleveland. At Cincinnati next week will be tough, but it's winnable. The following week at San Francisco is also a game they should win. Finally at home against Pittsburgh. The Bills can beat Pittsburgh at home and on top of that Pittsburgh might not have much to play for and could be sitting some of their top players to prep for the playoffs. Also, even if they are fighting for home field advantage I think playing just to make the playoffs is a bigger motivator than playing to try and get home field advantage. Especially since the game is in Buffalo, the Bills fans will be going crazy if Buffalo is at 9-6 and can win that game to possibly lock up a playoff spot. I do believe that if the Bills can win out and finish 10-6 they will make the playoffs. I'm not sure if they hold the tiebreaker as of now over Denver, but obviously they don't have it over Baltimore. Looking at Baltimore's schedule they very well could lose two more games, which is what the Bills need. Looking at Denver's schedule and looking at how they've played recently they also could very well lose two more games. As for the other 6-6 teams, Jacksonville won't win out and we control our own destiny with Cincinnati since we play each other next week. I just hope the Bills can get a win against Cleveland to get above .500 for the first time this year and build the excitement going into next weeks game against Cincinnati.

thank you very much for your insight. it was really helpful. i really hope that they win out, the bengals will be very tough at home and with the loss of the tight end (campbell maybe) we will have some work to do...lets just hope for the best...thanks again

I couldn't tell you much about him either. I know he played QB at ND and won a NC in '73. Clements and Mularkey have got the offense really going, basically ever since McGahee stepped in as the starting RB. The only bad games they've really had since then was @ Baltimore and @ NE. Right now they're riding a three game win streak and they're averaging nearly 40 points a game. Although the ppg is a little inflated in that stretch because they've had two kick returns for TD and at least one defensive TD. However, the offense has still been good. Moulds and rookie Lee Evans are becoming a dangerous combination at receiver with the emergence of McGahee as a solid NFL running back. It's hard to say how Clements would do at the college level, you never can tell really until he gets the opportunity. Personally, I would like him to stay with the Bills and I hope ND goes and takes NE offensive coordinator Charlie Weis because the rest of the AFC needs all the help it can get right now.

As a cleveland fan, I always thought that we were the only ones that have had it rough(I was young in the early nineties). But with OSU's recent bowls, I must say that I have much more respect for the fans of the buffalo bills. It has been tough to lose 2 in a row, but 4 would just kill me. Yet they remained strong, and to this day have some of the best fans.( They were well represented at the browns game this year!)

But I know that there are millions of fans that would just love to be in our shoes for just one of these games, win or lose. In time the pain will wear off, and we can look back and celebrate these teams properly!

GO BUCKS!
GO BILLS!!
