Offered!!!!!! Haynes decided to offer after only watching 3 plays from film!!! Takes his total up to 16 offers...

Not sure on our chances since it is always tough to get a recruit out of SEC country when they have offers from the big SEC schools...Like to see us going after big time DT tho.

So the staff is recruiting him as a DT? Or did you mean that you see him as a DT?

According to this Atlanta Journal Constitution article updated March 9, Smith was part of the Junior recruits who witnessed Orgeron, Kiffin et al. shirt ripping antics at Tennessee on loan from Ole miss and copied from USC.
Interesting that they insulated the moms from the "wild boys" before they started the shirt ripping tactics.
Interesting comments from Smith about his memory of the event.
Wonder how this plays out at the Smith home.

Mom: Garrison what did that polite gentleman Mr. Kiffin talk with you boys about when the parents went to the chapel to talk about the family values at UT and how we will see a level of maturity and growth in respect of our sons if they are entrusted to Coach Kiffin and staff?
Garrison: Not much Mom, just about how important special teams are and all.

Kiffin?s Tennessee staff ripping off shirts for recruiting | College Football Recruiting

Many in the crowd weren?t sure how to react. ?The coaches told us to stand up, but nobody really knew what to do. We started clapping, sort of like one of those ?Ah, this feels awkward? kind of things,? Vogler said. ?The coaches yelled ?OK, we?re going to give you another shot. We?ve leaving the room. When we come back in here, we want it really to get crazy.??
Douglass defensive lineman Garrison Smith said the lights in the room dimmed. ?This one coach stayed behind and walked to the side of the room. Then he kept slamming the [side] doors, as if the other assistant coaches were trying to break it down. It was like an angry dog or some wild animals were on the other side.?
After a few moments, Smith said the doors swung open and the Tennessee assistants ran into the room. ?By now, three or four coaches had their shirts ripped off.? Smith said around 10 Tennessee players, including All-America defensive back Eric Berry of Atlanta and quarterback Jonathan Crompton, ran down from behind the recruits to meet the coaches on the floor. ?Eric and the rest of the players were chanting ?U-T, wild boys ? U-T, wild boys ? U-T wild boys.?? This time, prospects left their seats and joined the celebration.

Garrison Smith - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Garrison Smith, who may receive an Ohio State offer in the future, spoke with affiliate Web site Bucknuts.com about his recruitment.

"Every school in the SEC except LSU and Kentucky has offered me a scholarship. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, all of them have offered. Georgia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina, N.C. State, those schools have offered too."

Smith added, "I've always been a Buckeye fan since I was a little kid. They have great tradition. They've had so many legends play for them. And Jim Tressel is a legendary coach."

Last fall, Smith terrorized opponents to the tune of 108 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 14 sacks.

Douglass DL Smith excited about visit to UGA on Saturday
March 20, 2009, by jhood

Douglass defensive lineman Garrison Smith will be among the large contingent of players attending Junior Day at Georgia on Saturday.

With 21 scholarship offers in his possession from programs such as Georgia, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State and Tennessee, the 6-foot-3, 260-pound Smith is becoming one of the state?s most coveted prospects.

But don?t look for Smith to pull the trigger on a commitment during his visit to Athens this weekend.

?I?m just planning on going to the school and having a good visit,? Smith said. ?I want to see the team, see all the coaches and have a good day at Georgia.?

When asked where the Dogs rate among the schools that have already offered, Smith said he?s still in the process of evaluating.

?I haven?t narrowed things down yet,? he said. ?I?m looking at all the schools and what they have to offer.?
