'10 GA RB Mack Brown (Florida Verbal)

Mack Brown - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

Under Armour All-American running back Mack Brown told ESPN affiliate Web site AuburnUndercover.com, "Auburn stands up at the top. I talk to Coach Chizik all the time, and I like the way he's said they'll use me in the offense. He said they'll get me the ball all different ways - catching passes, I-formation, single back, split back. I like the thought of being an all-around back like that."

However, the Tigers will likely face stiff competition for the ESPNU 150 Watch List ball-carrier. Brown previously named Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma and Alabama as his top four.

Several other programs such as Ohio State, Tennessee, Michigan, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Oregon, Duke, Louisville, West Virginia, Arkansas, South Carolina and Rutgers have also offered.

How good is his team? How good is the competition he faces?

I can answer this since I live local.

MLK and many of the urban schools tend to have fantastic players but are often a little under coached. The district he plays in is very top heavy. MLK - Grady - Lithonia - and to a certain extent Bannaker tend to dominate year after year.

To further compare it - Cameron Heyward, another buckeye from Atlanta played in a significantly stronger division.

Top recruit Mack Brown, a running back from Lithonia, Ga., gave Florida a verbal commitment during Friday Night Lights at Florida Field.

Brown, listed as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound speedster who ran for 1,712 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior.

Florida now has 16 verbal commitments for the 2010 class. Verbal commitments are non-binding. National Signing Day is in February.

"They showed me a lot of film of plays from the I-formation," Brown said. "It looks like they are going to run the I-formation more with (quarterback John) Brantley."

Dogs’ Malcome vs. Gators’ Brown heats up SWD-MLK game | AJC College Sports Recruiting

The game, which will be played tonight at 8 at Clarkston's Hallford Stadium, will feature two of the state's top-rated running backs. MLK's Mack Brown is considered the No. 1 tailback in the state. He committed to the Florida Gators last month. Southwest DeKalb's Kendrun Malcome is also rated among the state's best backs. The fact that they've committed to bitter SEC rivals makes the matchup that much more enticing.

"Basically everybody has been saying it's the Georgia commit against the Florida commit," Jarvis said with a chuckle. "It's Georgia-Florida."
