Seantrel Henderson (Buffalo Bills)

Seantrel Henderson in Miami's doghouse again

Posted by Ben Kercheval on March 3, 2012, 2:36 PM EST

Though he was one of the nation's top football recruits in 2010, Miami tackle Seantrel Henderson hasn?t had it easy at the collegiate level.

Since switching to the Canes from USC, Henderson has been linked to a reported suspension - although back surgery sidelined the mammoth tackle against Maryland anyway - and has been limited with injuries. Heading into the 2012 season, Henderson is apparently, once again, not in the good graces of head coach Al Golden.

Golden announced after practice today that Henderson, as well as cornerback Keion Payne and linebacker Kelvin Cain, were suspended through the weekend for violation of team rules, but would return early next week.

Seantrel Henderson, This Is Your Life!

Today we revisit the case of one Seantrel Henderson. Remember him?

Henderson was the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2010 out of Cretin-Derham Hall High in Minnesota. He's back in the news again because on Monday, the offensive lineman will announce whether he plans to return for his final season of eligibility at Miami or play his odds in the NFL draft. The smart money has been on Henderson returning, but that was before word leaked that the NCAA planned to deliver a list of alleged infractions to the school on the same day.

If Henderson is looking for the first ride out of town, it wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone at USC. Henderson bailed on that school after it was slapped with NCAA probation in 2010. Who could forget his signing day announcement on CBS College Sports that he was going to be a Trojan? The video proof is above.

Sources: Henderson failed drug test

NFL teams were notified late last week that Miami Hurricanes right tackle Seantrel Henderson tested positive at the scouting combine for smoking marijuana, multiple league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Henderson, who has elite abilities, already had been removed from some draft boards due to the fact that he revealed at the Senior Bowl that suspensions at Miami were related to failed drug tests.

Seantrel Henderson's NFL draft stock still dropping
“I just look to show that I’m a hard worker and I have great character,” Henderson said. “I felt like I had some bad press in the media that made teams in the NFL think that I’m kind of a bad guy or a knucklehead. I just felt like I made a couple bad decisions, and I think that I deserve a chance to play in the NFL and that I’m a first-rounder.”

Welcome to the NFL Seantrel Henderson: Bills draft 'Canes OL in 7th Round

Here's what NFL Network's Mike Mayock had to say:

"Seantrel Henderson to me is one of the biggest boom or bust guys in the draft. A year ago I watched him against the kid Bjoern Werner of FSU who went in the first round and he shut him out. You see him play at that level sometimes and a completely different and lower level other times. There's no consistency with this kid at all. From a talent perspective he's a first or second round pick. But I don't see him getting picked anywhere near there. I think he's probably a 4th round pick. It is a buyer beware."
