Andrew Hendrix (Notre Dame signee; transfer to Miami of Ohio)

I know nothing about Hendrix (other than he plays for a pretty good program, and the coaches like him enough to offer) but I sure like the idea of another QB at tOSU, we sure need some numbers for the future post TP times.

Really like this offer. Hopefully this doesn't mean Montana is out but it seems we may have moved on. Either way, I don't see the Shoenhoft comparison other than stats. While I agree production is nice to see, I don't believe Hendrix got to sling it around much. Mostly different is that Hendrix has fairly good mechanics for his age and Shoenhoft was raw...about as raw as you can get. On top of that, Hendrix's accuracy is his best asset to me, though his arm will certainly be more than adequate.

I've got to believe the staff is hedging their bet on Montana. They do no want to be left at the alter and scrambling like last year. Either would be a good option for thre bucks IMO. Similar styles.

There is absolutely no comparrison between the two. Shoenhoft could throw a football through a block of ice...but that was his only skill. his career high school completion percentage was abysmal, his TD to INT ratio was not impressive at all and there were some in the X program who weren't convinced that he ever grasped the offense...at the HIGH SCHOOL level.
I've heard NONE of these things regarding Hendrix and having seen Colerain play against both, Hendrix scares me more than Robbie ever did. just my opinion.

I'm happy he got the OSU offer. I hope its not too late.

Buckeyes offer quarterback

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel has been targeting Under Armour All-American quarterback Nick Montana (Westlake Village, Calif./ Oaks Christian). In fact, Tressel was not expected to offer a scholarship to another quarterback until Montana selected a college, or told the Buckeyes he was no longer considering Ohio State.

However, on Sunday a second quarterback, Andrew Hendrix (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller), received news that the Buckeyes were offering a scholarship.

"He has been offered," Hendrix's mother Jennifer Hendrix said. "Andrew called and told me about it. He's very excited about it."

The 6-3, 220-pounder completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,700 yards and 11 touchdowns during his junior season. He also averaged five yards per carry.

In addition to Ohio State, Hendrix's list of scholarship offers includes Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Louisville, Maryland, Nebraska, Stanford, Kansas and Vanderbilt.

Agreed, two totally different players. Obviously you would know better than I, so good to hear you echo that sentiment.

On a side note, this is a really down year for QB nationally. Aside from Heaps, I don't see any stand outs. As excited as I would have been to get Montana, I don't really see much of a drop off in talent with Hendrix, only luster and better mechanics. As Buckrock said, similar QB's and I think Hendrix is complete enough to contribute early on in the case of an emergency. As union has stated, the staff needs a player with some polish who can be ready to contribute early if needed (Pryor leaves early? Does Guiton pan out? Bauserman gets hurt?). I think we are getting what we want if we can get Hendrix. Braxton Miller will be huge but he still has another year.

I really like what I saw from Hendrix's highlight film. The thing that most impressed and stood out to me was his quick decision making. He also has good size, a quick release, throws an accurate ball and is pretty mobile.

I like the offer!!

Hendrix completed over 60% of his throws for 1700 yds. Where is this discussion of "awful stats" coming from?

As for Schoenhoft, he was a model citizen and teammate during his time in Columbus...things didn't work out.

This thread is for news about Andrew Hendrix and his recruitment. Let's get back to that please.

Grazie.

Am I the only one in Columbus that would rather have Hendrix over Nick? I am MUCH more impressed by Andrew and everything I have seen from the kid and believe that Hendrix fits our style of play better than Nick does.

I'm not knocking Nick at all, I'm not saying Nick isn't a good QB at all... I just can't help but love what Andrew brings to the table. He's got great size at 6'3 220 and some great athletic ability to go with it and throws the ball VERY well from everything I've seen.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the kid looks like a Tebow clone - not saying he's as good, but they just look similar on paper and on film, however, I'm not saying he's as good as Tebow either...(I think I just threw up in my mouth a little....:dead:)

my apologies, Grad. Somebody made the comparrison and I wanted to respond that there wasn't one. Robbie IS a model citizen as is Andrew. I was proud to see Robbie as a Buckeye and I'm hopeful I can say the same about Andrew.

Rivals$--Hendrix reacts to offer

Andrew says he is planning to become an orthopedic surgeon so the academic side of his recruitment is extremely important. He is planning on cutting his list in the next few weeks.

I know that plenty of these kids make boneheaded decisions etc, but I'm consistently amazed at how mature the majority are. You wouldn't have caught me making such statements back in my day if tOSU was recruiting me.
