Sebastian LaRue Solid with Trojans
The 2013 recruiting class at USC features three of the top wide receivers in the nation in Sebastian LaRue (Santa Monica, CA), Steven Mitchell (Bishop Alemany, CA) and Eldridge Massington (West Mesquite, TX). LaRue and Mitchell are both versatile slot-type players just under 6'0", while Massington has a long frame at 6'3" 205.

LaRue has great top-end speed and a knack for making difficult catches in coverage. The Santa Monica HS senior has a natural ability to make defenders miss when he has the ball in his hands and has superior route-running skills as high school wideout.

"I have setup two visits so far. One to Washington State... when they play UCLA in a couple of weeks and I setup one to Ohio State when they play Michigan. So those are the two games that I'll be checking out and just checking out the school environments. Right now I'm fully committed to USC. They're my number one right now, that's where I stand," LaRue told CLA Sports.

Sebastian LaRue performs on the field with a confidence and swagger that is immediately noticeable and he's just the type of player that any college program would want on their team. It's easy to see why the USC Trojans offered the Santa Monica senior wide receiver and come February, Larue will more than likely be a member of the Trojan family.

After Santa Monica claimed the Ocean League title on Friday night, LaRue spoke highly about USC to CollegeLevelAthletes.com.

"I like the things they have to offer off the football field... the alumni situation and things like that. That's really what drew me in to USC. On the field they have a great tradition of putting people into the NFL, but off the field academically and with alumni and things like that you're setting yourself up for a great life down the road."

Would he be considered a soft verbal even though kiffin is encouraging his recruits to take other visits to make sure they really want to go to usc?

Have to give some credit to Lane Kiffin here, it is nice to see him not pulling his offer to a recruit for visiting another school after committing to USC. Apparently he is even encouraging the recruit to visit other schools. Needless to say some coaches (think Brady Hoke here) are not that accommodating.

I think the point you're missing that he has 18 commits currently, and can sign only 15 due to ongoing NCAA sanctions. He needs to find ways to let himself off the hook without coming off as a total asshat to the high school coaches. Letting commits to visit other schools is a result of that. Let's see if he takes the same approach when the NCAA sanctions are past.

Seems like a great kid. Hopefully the Game in Nov can change his mind.

According to this article Kiffin is OK with 18 as long as 3 enroll early (i.e. count against the 2012 class):

http://articles.latimes.com/2012/aug/05/sports/la-sp-0805-usc-football-recruiting-20120805

See: The Trojans also have commitments from 18 high school seniors......Last February,........its NCAA-mandated cap of signable players set at 15, USC signed 12..........By signing three less than the maximum last spring, the Trojans saved those spots for early enrollees next January along with the 15 available slots in the 2013 class.

So USC should have a scholarship available for LaRue (i.e. all 18 commits) if he still wants it; but hopefully he'll be sold on Ohio State (after his visit here) and won't want it.

Well, he signed 15 for 2012. If 3 of them had early enrolled, then what you say might be possible. But I am not buying it just yet. Time will tell. I think it goes against Kiffin's mentality and we will only know when he has finished with NCAA sanctions.

Maxpreps - Get 2 The Game powered by American Family Insurance: Sebastian LaRue

Senior Sebastian LaRue of Santa Monica High School (Calif.) is one of the top players in his class. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound USC commit is rated by MaxPreps as the No. 20 wingback in the class of 2013.

A super-athlete with blinding speed, LaRue opened the eyes of coaches and spectators with a phenomenal 99-yard kickoff return in last year's opening round playoff game against Channel Islands (Oxnard, Calif.). After that, everyone involved in LaRue's life knew he was going to be a special player.

LaRue has gained tremendous support from his brother, Chazz Vickers, whose games Sebastian would attend as a young man. His mother, Domonique Dane, recognized Sebastian's football talent in 8th grade and has been in his corner ever since.

"My family, they respect what I'm doing," said LaRue. "They're with me every step of the way."

After playing football at USC, LaRue hopes to one day make it to the NFL so that he can give back to his community.

Bucknuts - Boarding House: Monday Edition

11/12

**Sayonara Sebastian? ? The Buckeyes have decided not to bring in USC wide receiver commitment Sebastian LaRue (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) for an official visit. LaRue was planning to visit Ohio State the weekend of Nov. 24 for the Michigan game. However, LaRue called Urban Meyer close to two weeks ago and then spoke to Tom Herman last week and was told the Ohio State visit later this month is off. The OSU coaches did not close the door completely, but at least for now the visit has not been rescheduled for a later date.

LaRue finishes up an official visit to Washington State today. He is also talking about possibly taking visits to Notre Dame and/or Texas A&M. LaRue says he would still make an official visit to Ohio State if the Buckeye coaches want him to. But at least for now it looks like the OSU staff has moved on.

Good news on other WR recruits, perhaps?
