'14 JUCO OT Chad Mavety (FSU Verbal)

Interview with Weekend Visitor Chad Mavety- Ozone

Rutgers recruiting: Chad Mavety, the 2nd-ranked JUCO OL in the country, to visit Rutgers July 3rd

Chad Mavety, the 6-6, 320-pound Nassau (Garden City, N.Y.) Community College offensive tackle, confirmed with NJ.com that he will be taking an unofficial visit to Rutgers on July 3. After a slow start to their recruitment of Mavety, the Scarlet Knights have rebounded, finding themselves with just as good a shot as any other program in the country to land the second ranked junior college offensive lineman in the country (according to 247Sports.com).

"Yea, I'm gonna come up July 3rd, probably with some family and my linebacker," said Mavety. "I don't think they're recruiting him (the linebacker), but he's just gonna come. I'm not sure if I'm gonna stay overnight or not, yet. But I'll probably just stay for the day, most likely."

Mavety had been quiet in terms of professing his collegiate intentions, leading many to believe Rutgers had fallen out of the picture. However, according to Mavety, that assumption couldn't be farther from the truth.

"I've been talking to coach (Rob) Spence and I talk to the o-line coach (Damian Wroblewki), a lot," Mavety admitted.

And those aren't the only Rutgers coaches Mavety has been in contact with, as Kyle Flood also appears to have struck up a relationship with the priority recruit.

"I like Rutgers, I'm not gonna lie," said Mavety. "It's my hometown school. I like coach (Kyle) Flood. He's always reaching out to me, so I guess we'll see. I'll check it out and see how it feels. It's really wherever I feel comfortable."

Beginning tomorrow, Mavety will embark upon a string of collegiate visits, checking out the climates of multiple schools that have extended him offers.

"This week I start," he said. "Tomorrow, I'm going to Ohio State, and then next weekend, I'll be at Tennessee. The weekend after that, I'll be at Syracuse, then Rutgers after that. Then I'm heading out to Miami (Fla.), Florida State and Alabama. I'm gonna do as many as I can."

At this point, Mavety claims no favorites, although he feels he should have a better idea of where he wants to attend school after taking his summer visits.

"No, I don't have any tops, right now," he said. But probably after July or early August, I should have some."

The Scarlet Knights extended an offer to Mavety mid-March. The staff had initially recruited the New Jersey-raised product out of Sparta high school, but Mavety fielded no offers at that time due a combination of playing out of position (at d-tackle) as well as academic concerns.

However, Mavety now holds upwards of 30 offers, including tenders from the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Nebraska and Texas A&M, to name a few.

Mavety will graduate from Nassau this December, after his second season of football at the school. He is looking to compete for a four-year university by the spring 2014. By that time, he will have three years to play two.

Scout $ - JUCO Lineman Checks Out Buckeyes

By Young.....Says his visit was awesome & even though Ohio State was already high on his list, the visit helped even more. Loves the staff & is being told he can be the starting LT from day one. Plans on visiting Tennessee, Syracuse, Rutgers, Alabama & Florida State.

Could end up being one of the real key recruits in this class. Assuming Braxton comes back, OSU is going to be ranked very highly in 2014 and the 2 positions groups that will need a bunch of young guys to step up are DB (losing 3 starters) and O Line (losing 4 starters).

DB has some more obvious candidates with Webb, possibly Lattimore and the loaded class of last year with Bell, Burrows and company (plus older guys like Powell, Bogard, etc.).

On OL, there are way fewer obvious candidates and a talented JUCO enrolling early would have a great chance to start and at a minimum would be one of the top guys off the bench right away. There is even a real opportunity we could have a true freshman starter like Mike Brewster was if a guy like Knox, Prince or Jamarco Jones really impressed right out of the gates.

Scout $ - Quick Hitter: Mavety Sets Officials

7/10

By Dohn.....Taking an unofficial to Alabama this weekend. Has officials scheduled for Florida State (7/19-21) and Ohio State (11/23). On track to graduate in December & enroll in January. Has three years to play two.

Versus Eluemunor's two to play one...all things being equal, I am wondering if Mavety's eligibility is more appealing (or less?) to the staff.
