'14 NC RB Elijah Hood (Notre Dame Decommit; UNC Verbal)

I heard he wants to play for a coaching staff that knows how to use a gauntlet machine properly.

Not to worry, they have a "Do not enter" sign on the back of it now. In Cam's defense, he said in Texas the gauntlets are made to go 2 ways

As far as Hood, rumors are that he's decommitting due to distance. Got to expect that UNC will be his #1 after this then. Theres some speculation that this has something to do with his on again, off again gf who dumped him just days after the ND commit. Sampson from ISD talked to Hood's dad today, he claims he has no idea that his son had decommitted. He may just be covering there, don't know.

Quite an interesting recruitment thus far. He committed 2 days after his visit in April, said he was shutting recruitment down completely at that time. UNC says they'll continue to pursue him hard. Hood starts helping push recruits to ND, says lots of good things on the interwebz. Was looking into getting in for EE just a month ago. Miami made him an offer just 2 weeks ago, he said look elsewhere because he was solid. Last week he then went dark and deletes social media, then I guess decommits today. Such is recruiting.

Wasn't Hood instrumental in getting Nelson to pick the Irish?

Yeah, I believe so. He influenced some others as well. The loss at his position won't be too great, but he was shaping up to be a future leader imo. He had become the unoficial mouthpiece/head of the class. Thats where the real loss would be if the Irish aren't able to reel him back in.

It may not be meant to be...but we'll always have #RollToilet. I might change it to #Reesus instead since I'm a Catholic with a sense of humor.

A Charlotte Observer column sheds some light (or doesn't) on the decommit. Supposedly Hood visited again in July, which is news to the interwebz insiders. "Something" didn't go right according to his father, he wouldn't say what it is. All he would say is that Notre Dame is definitely out of it, and he guesses that his son's recruitment is open to all schools again. So, maybe NC isn't an automatic lock here. Got to figure OSU will be in the mix if he's truly open again. Still seems a bit fishy if he was turned off by this visit nobody knows about in July and he was trying to EE earlier this month. Recruitment is starting to smell like Anzalone here.

Thought he might stick the recruitment out a little longer, but it certainly looks like UNC's consistent pursuit won out. I don't expect him to waver now that he's committed to UNC. He and his parents have always been big fans. It would probably take an epic meltdown on the field to change their minds, but even then he's been a NC boy at heart all his life and may stick by that loyalty.
