Rivalry intrigues DB Simmons

With every offer, Brandon Simmons (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview) seems to work that much harder during a practice or training session. The 2014 safety is nearing 20 offers, and more are expected as the summer progresses.

From a recruiting standpoint, no day seemed to make Simmons smile like Tuesday. It was then when the 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back received news that he picked up four offers in one day. In addition to Arizona and Boise State, Simmons learned of offers from Michigan and Ohio State.

?They came to my school during spring ball and offered me, but I didn?t know about them then,? Simmons said. ?It kind of blew my mind. I look at myself as a good player, but I don?t really brag about myself. To see all these offers come, it made me feel pretty good.?

Notre Dame, Ohio State and UCLA are among the programs that have offered Simmons for a list of claimed offers that has topped 20 as of the end of June. While there is some overlap between him and his teammate, the 6-foot, 170-pound safety is not completely locking himself into a certain school with his best friend in the secondary.

"Anytime you get an offer, it sticks out because a lot of people are unfortunate to get one," Simmons said. "Lately, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, West Virginia have stuck out.

Deep in the Heart of Texas: Buckeyes Drawing interest from 2014 DB
By Michael Chung

Everything is bigger in Texas.

Deep in the heart of the state stands a powerful 6-0, 170-pound safety who runs a 4.6-second forty time. Ohio State has recently been recruiting the Lone Star State hard since Urban Meyer hired Tom Herman as his offensive coordinator, and Brandon Simmons is one of the latest to receive an offer.

Typically, the top tier athletes in Texas favor the home-state Longhorns, but this 4-star safety out of Timberview High School actually grew up in New Jersey, and he is he progeny of a father who played at West Virginia.

One of the top prospects in the state of Texas in the 2014 class, Simmons already holds a large number of offers for next year?s recruiting class. He is being hotly pursued by LSU and new SEC member Texas A&M, along with schools like Arizona, Boise State, Iowa, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, UCLA and WVU.

Yes, there?s no doubt the Buckeyes are in a 10-gallon fight for this Mansfield, Tex. Prospect. He recently took some time to talk with The-Ozone about his recruitment.

Ozone: When did you receive an offer to play at Ohio State?
