'14 VA DE Da'Shawn Hand (Alabama Verbal)

thought this was really interesting from one of the mods at 11warriors. Link.

JEREMY BIRMINGHAM STAFF on 31 MAY 2013

Ohio State will not make up any ground with Hand this weekend and part of the reason is they don't really care to. He's a great player and a really awesome kid, but not the right fit for their program.

Whoa.

Whoa.

I'm guessing that means he's not one of the guys who'll choke you out over a game of checkers.

Based on what we know about Urban Meyer and Brady Hoke, it's not surprising that guys who are attracted to what Hoke is selling do not gel with Urban Meyer.

It happened with Peppers and if it happens with Hand so be it. I will continue to have full confidence in Meyer's method and ridicule Hoke's until the on field results dictate otherwise.

That said, Vrabel is an amazing recruiter and there is a long time to re-establish good vibes in this recruitment, especially if he has a good visit. Hand or someone else- we will get an elite edge rusher or two.

Color me unconcerned.

Yeah, this battle will go on until signing day. I've read before that urban has said something to the affect, if a kid commits to a school that just means its in his top 3. I don't believe this staff will give up on a top 3 recruit if the recruit visits campus.
Even if we were to strike out on hand, I'd be fine with Holmes, or having one of our LB recruits grow into a DE spot.

Aside from general recruiting, I find this talk all moot. Hand isn't coming here regardless of what the staff or any other osu prognosticator feels about him. Much like Peppers, this ship sailed long ago. For whatever reason, the Ohio State brand name/Urban's method isn't resonating early on with the big names for 2014. Flat out, this year just isn't on par with the last two classes but let's get real...the last two classes became epic towards the end. I have no doubts a great year for us and Urban's vintage closer status comes through to pull some surprises per the usual.

"I eliminated Virginia Tech because they don't offer a sports marketing program. And with South Carolina, the professor just didn't wow us. I have the utmost respect for Virginia Tech and South Carolina, and their coaches, and wish them the best of luck.

At Michigan, the [sports marketing] program was so impressive, I wanted to sign up right there. During my visit to Alabama, I met the dean of their [sports marketing] program, and it's an excellent program. He actually played football, and he gets it. And I haven't been to Florida, yet, but I've heard their defensive coaching staff and that defensive line with coach [Brad] Lawig and coach D.J. Durkin is amazing. And Alabama's engineering program was working on a $25M project when I was down there."

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 'BAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!
