Give me Moore

The cool part about July is when you stumble onto a guy you?ve never seen. Preferably, when tripping over a prospect, you?d like him to have size. So when 7-foot Doral Moore (first name pronounced du-rel) showed up in the layup line, life was good. Midway through the first half when Moore caught it, drop stepped and dunked, well, life went from good to great.

Not too bad for a kid who didn?t have a scholarship offer and wasn?t watched by a single head coach as a sophomore.

?I just now started to talk to head coaches,? Moore said. ?No one knew who I was until I got a lot better.?

Moore doesn?t have a college list. He doesn?t need one right now, but that day will come. Like me, a lot of college coaches showed up on Wednesday just to see what the Game Elite 16s travel squad had. Like me, they all had to walk out with a smile. The crowd at the game included Florida State?s Leonard Hamilton, Georgia?s Mark Fox, Houston?s James Dickey, and assistants from Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, Ohio State, Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson, South Carolina, Arizona and Alabama.

Moore is connected a little with Ohio State and Kansas, but rest assured, they?ll all be coming. This kid is only 16 years old. He?s a long rim protector who drop-stepped dunked and dropped in a hook shot in front of 50 or so college coaches. His life is going to get complicated very quickly. Currently, when not working to get better, you can find him at a local lake in Stockbridge, Ga., where he?s fishing for bass.

Summer Jam Notebook: Doral Moore emerges
By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer
July 20, 2013

MEQUON, Wis. -- Not as nationally hyped as some of the other big men in the class of 2015, Doral Moore is looking to prove that he's one of the best big men in the country.

In fact, he's hoping to match up with Diamond Stone -- one of the top 10 juniors -- at some point during the Under Armour/NY2LA Summer Jam.

"So I could show them what I'm made of, you know?" Moore said on Friday afternoon.

The 7-footer from Locust Grove (Ga.) didn't have a scholarship offer heading into the month of July, but his stock has been steadily on the rise since an impressive performance at Peach State last weekend. Moore is very good defensively, blocking shots and controlling the glass, but he also has some good back-to-the-basket ability and can knock down short jumpers.

Ohio State, Kansas, Indiana and Texas have all come on strong recently, while Auburn, Cincinnati and Georgia Tech are pursuing as well. Moore is yet to take any visits, but he does want to check out Ohio State and Texas, and perhaps Kansas.

"They know how to use their post players," Moore said of those three schools. "They don't just let them set picks all the time. They put them in the offense."

BRIDGING THE GAP WITH – DORAL MOORE
on September 9 | in Bridging The Gap | by admin

Sheila Mikailli and Ballers Bridge sit down with center Doral Moore. Moore plays for one of Under Armour’s elite grassroots teams, the Atlanta Xpress.
Sheila Mikailli: You’re one of the more talented players in your class, but there isn’t as much hype around your name as some of the other big guys. Do you feel like you have something to prove?
Doral Moore: Absolutely. I fee like I can easily prove myself to be one of the best centers in the country and make a name for myself, you know?

I feel like I should be the best at getting rebounds, blocking shots, and playing the best defense I can because that’s crucial for my position. I can score the ball pretty well, too. I have a little bit of a jump shot and I can finish around the rim pretty well.

SM: What are some things you need to work on to get to that next level?
DM: I need to work on conditioning. But after being on a cross-country team this year that shouldn’t be a problem. I’m pretty well-conditioned. And I need to work on weight training a lot. I signed up for a weight training class for school this year. I’m getting a lot stronger. I don’t really feel like I have a weakness anymore because I’ve been working on them.

SM: Talk to me about your summer with the Atlanta Xpress. How was it?
DM: Once we got used to playing with each other things were great. Overall, we played as a team. We had some wins and we never flunked out so I think we played pretty well this summer.

My favorite moment was playing Arkansas when we were in Orlando. They were number one or number two at that time so it was great almost being able to beat them. That game felt good because we played really, really well together as a team.

SM: Any games you’re looking forward to this season? Any big rivalries?
DM: They’re not really our rival but I would feel pretty excited getting to play Daniel Giddens and maybe Jalen Brown. I’d like to see how our team sizes up against their team.

SM: Lets talk recruiting. What schools have you been hearing from? Which ones stand out to you?
DM: Right now schools that stand out to me is Indiana, Ohio State, Texas, Illinois. I’ve been getting a little interest from Kansas, but they haven’t offered me yet. Those are some of the schools that stand out to me that I like a lot.

Rivals - Georgia big man's development taking off

12/17

By McDonald...called one of the most improved players in the class and will push for 5-star status the next time the rankings are updated...has only visited Georgia Tech so far...talks about wanting to see Ohio State, Maryland and Louisville.

Word is OSU and Louisville are out in front...would love to see Thad get this kid.

I think OSU has a really good shot at Doral. With OSU having basically a wide-open starting C spot to offer the 2015 class, they should be able to lure a top-25 prospect like Doral to come to Columbus. No other top-10 program in the country should be able to offer such a clear path to PT as OSU would. Seriously, Doral's competition for PT would be Dave Bell and possibly nobody else - gotta love your odds of earning a starting spot with that equation if you're Moore.

Rivals $ - 7-foot center holds Indiana in high regard

1/7
From the Indiana site...currently ranked at #38 but is poised to move up into 5-star territory...his coach says Indiana has been down to watch several practices...Indiana, Ohio State, Illinois, Mississippi State and nearby Georgia Tech have been the most active recruiting Doral and distance will not be a factor...averaging nearly a double double so far this season.

I really like both Moore and Giddens but I would prefer Moore if I had my choice...

I agree, sounds like Moore is a better fit for what Matta wants at the 5 position. Namely, I think Moore would be a better 1-on-1 post defender and a better shot blocker.
