Kentucky among teams to contact 5-star 2015 Charles Matthews ASAP

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ? Five-star Chicago guard Charles Matthews said the University of Kentucky was among the teams to contact him shortly after midnight Friday ? the initial moment recruiters canto send unlimited messages or make unlimited calls to 2015 prospects.

Matthews, a 6-foot-4 player ranked No. 9 nationally by Rivals.com, said he expected to talk on the phone with coach John Calipari later Saturday ? the final day of the NBPA Top 100 camp ? and thinks there?s a ?good chance? he could receive a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

?If they do offer me, I?m going to be very happy for it,? he said.

Matthews had a 7 a.m. wakeup call for camp, but he stayed up until1 fielding calls and texts from recruiters. Illinois coach John Groce was the very first to reach out ? right at 12:01 a.m.

?He wants to let me know he wants me to be that marquee guy for the team and get them back to the glory days of the program,? Matthews said.

Ohio State, Arizona, Stanford also got in calls right away.

He added that he?s been hearing a lot from Michigan State, Kansas and UK recently. The Jayhawks are a recent team to offer.

Ohio State Offers Charles Matthews

Charles Matthews continues to rack up the high major offers across the country. The 2015 St. Rita guard is an athletic scorer that can put the ball in the hoop in a variety of ways. He has established himself as one of the premier prospects in the state.

Saturday Matthews announced on his twitter that he added another offer to his collection. The latest one is from the Ohio State Buckeyes out of the Big 10 Conference.

The Ohio State offer comes on the heels of a recent offer from Kentucky for Matthews.
