2006 BCS, polls, Bowl Predictions and computer ratings

I love seeing that but loosing 9 starters on D, I think there are way too many ? marks to be number 1.

Yeah but who doesn't have ?'s this year that should be ahead of us? I'd say maybe just Texas, and they obviously have quite a large question mark. I think the thought process is that our offense should cover for our defense (which should be plenty good, obviously not last year good) until they can get up to speed (hopefully right around halfway through the first quarter again NIU).

Agreed. A team like this one would typically be ranked 6th or lower, but this season is too wide-open to predict.

Lots of ???? on Def., I agree. But look at the rest of the top 5 and the ???? that they carry as well:

Texas > New QB
USC > All their losses to NFL / a few off-the-field distractions
ND > No / slow Def. last year (at least in comparing to be able to stop our Off.), will they be that much better this year (can they stop our Off. even if they are)
Oklahoma > No QB

Who would you put ahead of us with their ????

1996 - Florida vs. Florida State. Here's the list, as far as the AP poll's #1 vs #2 in the regular season (it's happened 16 more times in Bowl games, including tOSU's 1969 Rose Bowl win over #2 USC and the 2003 Fiesta Bowl triumph over #1 Miami):

Not sure I like starting out at #1, but having #1 vs. #2 in the Texas game is awesome.

Lol at Duke getting a vote.

I remember reading somewhere that Spurrier always votes Duke at #25 in the preseason poll since he started out there. That should show you how much the preseason poll means.

I am a little suprised by Oklahoma being so high since the turn of events the last few days....

I bet most votes were already in before this happened. I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop after week 1 regardless of how they play.

Yeah, but didn't he atleast win a conference title when he was there? Going 1-10 the previous season and giving youself a vote is pretty bad.

Edit-Nevermind, I misunderstood what you said.

Yeah, I hate starting out at the top. I enjoy having to jump over other undefeated teams hoping that there will only be 2 at the most left or else we get screwed.

WVU looks loaded this year (with a weak schedule)... I'm surprised they are as low as #7... Oklahoma just kicked their starting QB off the team, that will hurt (the back-up wasn't getting first string reps during spring practice), I think Oklahoma is a bit high... I don't know who USC has comming back, except to know they lost a lot of high profile players...

I don't know who I would have above OSU, however I figured we would be #2 or #3 in the poll's... lets go wire to wire in the poll position

It is very rare that you get to hear of the exact mind-set, at the exact moment when a young man matures and works toward his full potential.

Here is Troy Smith's moment -- while the Buckeyes were playing the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Smith is in the basement of Ginn Sr., watching events.

"I'm sitting in the basement, watching TV and looking at (reminders of) all the things we've done. I really got it into my head that there wouldn't be a situation like this again."

That is a quote about a life-changing moment.

I agree that there are a lot of ? marks for everyone... But damn 9 starters and 2 studs on offense (Mangold, Holmes) is a lot. Oh well, it is what it is... Time to show up and stay on top. Plus this is huge in case there is a slip ealry in the season. Still will have a change to play in MNC possibly.

WVU could be there for the simple fact they play nobody.
