Auburn QB may miss spring practice

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Auburn quarterback Chris Todd is still bothered by a nagging shoulder injury that might sideline him for all or part of spring practice.

The junior college transfer was considered the front-runner to replace Brandon Cox next season, but his sore shoulder has limited his arm strength during the first week of practices.

Georgia opens spring with optimism for 2008

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) ? Georgia coach Mark Richt and his players spent the end of the 2007 season closely watching the polls.

They say that will change as the focus shifts to 2008 with Monday's first of 15 spring workouts.

The polls and BCS rankings were crucial at the end of last season as Richt lobbied unsuccessfully for a spot in the national championship game. The Bulldogs instead made the best of their Sugar Bowl berth, where a 41-10 rout of Hawaii led to a final No. 2 ranking.

Georgia returns 15 starters, including junior quarterback Matthew Stafford, from the 11-2 team and is expected to be ranked at or near the top of the preseason polls.

Logan Gray may see some playing time this fall for Georgia, but maybe not as a quarterback. There is a possibility the redshirt freshman could work his way into the offensive gameplan from another position, Georgia coach Mark Richt said. used as something else," Richt said. "He is a guy that is very athletic and very eager to help Georgia win." The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Gray, the only quarterback UGA signed in the high school class of 2007, could be used at that position in run situations. The Missouri product has the top speed among the three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster and also is the most athletic player in the group.

Just what the doctor ordered
Transfer Moody looks to cure Florida's RB deficiency

Emmanuel Moody and Urban Meyer might be the first to dispute the so-called Sports Illustrated cover jinx.

After all, USC's loss is Florida's gain.

Moody last was seen posing on one of five regional covers of the magazine's 2007 college football preview along with then-teammates Chauncey Washington and C.J. Gable. But days after the issue hit newsstands, Moody headed East to Gainesville.

ESPN - Georgia's Washington expects to miss '08 season because of shoulder surgery - College Football

Georgia's Washington expects to miss '08 season because of shoulder surgery

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia linebacker Marcus Washington, who started six games for the Bulldogs in 2007, will undergo left shoulder surgery and expects to miss the 2008 season.

Washington, a senior, said Monday he will have surgery in the next couple of weeks, with a recovery time estimated at six months.

"I think it would be in my best interest to go ahead and get it fixed," Washington said.

Washington played in 11 games last season and started six. He missed two games after his shoulder popped out against Ole Miss, and finished with 40 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

He reinjured the shoulder on March 7 when his arm was extended and a teammate fell on top of it.

Defensive coordinator Willie Martinez called the injury "a real blow" to the Bulldogs. Coach Mark Richt said the Bulldogs will work with linebackers Akeem Dent, Darryl Gamble and Darius Dewberry to help make up for Washington's absence.

UF's Harvin could miss rest of spring

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida receiver Percy Harvin might miss the rest of spring practice because of a nagging heel injury.

Harvin sat out practice Monday, wore a protective boot and was going to be re-evaluated before team doctors decide whether to shut him down for the spring.

"It's obviously not going to affect the fall," coach Urban Meyer said. "It might affect the rest of the spring. They're going to get a second opinion."

Fiutak's list of the top ten storylines has the passing game for UGA at #1.

Ten biggest spring ball/off-season storylines
The Georgia passing game

Georgia did just fine with an inconsistent passing game that finished 83rd in the nation averaging 198 yards per game, but it needs to be able to air it out more effectively if it wants to win a national title. The team's X factor will be a receiving corps that could be devastating if everyone plays up to their potential. Having a quarterback like Matthew Stafford makes everyone look better, and there will certainly be plenty of chances for big plays and plenty of opportunities to shine. Now it's time for the receivers to be a strength and not just a collection of guys. Stafford has all the tools, a great line to work behind, and a terrific running game to take the pressure off. Everything is in place, and now the receiving corps has to pull its weight. It just hasn't happened yet for Mo Massaquoi, Kris Durham or Kenneth Harris, and while they'll all get plenty of chances, A.J. Green and Tavarres King might become the top two options by the end of the year.

CFN EXCLUSIVE ... Herschel To Play For Dawgs

Herschel Walker To Rejoin The Georgia Football Team
As reported by Pete Fiutak

CollegeFootballNews.com has learned that Herschel Walker, the College Football Hall of Fame running back who led Georgia to the 1980 national title and won the 1982 Heisman Trophy, will officially join the Bulldog football team later next week all thanks to a strange technicality in the NCAA rule book.

Walker, 46, known for being one of the premier physical specimens in the history of football, has remained in great shape and has been privately working out for the last several months in the hope of making one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.
CFN has obtained copies of documents submitted to the NCAA from Walker and his lawyers requesting, and being granted, an extra year of eligibility 26 years after his last carry with the Bulldogs all because he left early for the USFL and not the NFL.

Walker left Georgia after his junior season for the upstart United States Football League, where he was the star of the Donald Trump owned New Jersey Generals rushing for 5,562 yards while setting the pro football record of 2,411 rushing yards in 1985.

Georgia Bulldogs, Knowshon Moreno, NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

Moreno's motor might not stop until Downtown Athletic Club

ATHENS, Ga. -- All the great ones have stories.

Knowshon Moreno's start: Bayshore Middle School in New Jersey. There were 25, 30 kids in a P.E. class that day. Little Knowshon lined them up and told them to come get a piece.

"Weaved through the whole class without getting touched," Steve Antonucci said. "I don't think anybody came even close to him."

The tale came to Antonucci, Moreno's high school coach, second hand, but has been repeated enough times to become urban legend. Fortunately, there are now cameras around each Saturday to document reasonable facsimiles of what Moreno did in P.E. class.

Welcome to the Heisman class of 2008. We're not saying Moreno, Georgia's redshirt sophomore tailback, is going to win the award but why not? We heard all the stories about Tim Tebow coming out of high school. He surpassed the hype to become the first sophomore to win the statue. Moreno is at least the next big thing in the SEC, maybe the country.
