Spurrier to Kiffin: I did not accuse you of cheating | Joe Person on Football

When asked if he were going to apologize again to Urban Meyer for
accusing the Florida coach of cheating, Kiffin said he never had received
an apology from Spurrier after Spurrier questioned whether he had passed
the NCAA recruiting test before he began calling prospects.

Told of Kiffin’s remark, Spurrier shook his head, paused then turned
around and faced Kiffin, who waiting to get on an elevator. “I didn’t
accuse you of cheating,” Spurrier said, pointing toward Kiffin. “I said,
‘Is it permissible to call recruits before he’s announced as head coach,
before you take the test?’”

Told of Kiffin?s remark, Spurrier shook his head, paused then turned

Spurrier's full of shit on this. He assumed that Kiffin hadn't yet taken the test, since Spurrier didn't know it was possible for Kiffin to take it online (which he already had); and then Spurrier implied that Kiffin was breaking rules since he incorrectly assumed that Kiffin couldn't have passed the test before making those calls.

The OBC's ignorance of the procedures and use of semantics shouldn't give him a pass here - he was doing what Mike Slive doesn't want the coaches to do. And as much as I hate to defend Kiffin, he's the aggrieved party in this scenario; Spurrier was ill-informed and trying to tweak UT without using the word Citrus, but there was nothing to tweak. This occurred before most of Kiffin's self-imposed problems took place.

SEC approves rule to limit signees to 28 per year - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com Live Scores, Standings, Stats

DESTIN, Fla. -- On the final day of the Southeastern Conference meeting
Friday, league presidents unanimously approved a rule limiting conference
football teams to signing just 28 players annually.

NCAA rules allow teams just 25 scholarships per year, but SEC schools
generally over sign players, anticipating a portion of the ones they sign
won't academically qualify. The new SEC rule takes effect immediately.

Forrest Evashevski and Woody once chased each other around a table at the Big 10 pre season presser as other coaches and reporters looked on. Maybe we'll get a menage a trois going at the SEC equivilant -- Kiffin, Meyer and Spurrier.

Anyone remember the SEC hissy fit in the 50s when the Georgia coach claimed he had heard Bear Bryant doing something illegal on the phone... where's Readog when I need him?

Ah yes, I remember now, the Georgia coach accussed Bryant of spying...

Nope wait, here 'tis; seems some one accussed Wally Butts (now hows that for a great coaching name?) and Bear Bryant of conspiring to throw a game:

Crompton received death threats during 2008 season; QB never told UT

Jonathan Crompton hesitates when asked the question.

Never one to look for pity, he's extremely uncomfortable during an interview over lunch discussing the persistent verbal attacks he received from Tennessee football fans who were disappointed by his performance last season.

Yet Crompton confirmed what the News Sentinel had been told months ago, that the cell phone calls and e-mails escalated to death threats as the Vols stumbled to a 5-7 season.

"I did have death threats," the senior quarterback reluctantly said.
Crompton said he received "a couple" of the threats, all via e-mail, as the Vols were struggling last fall.

For the most part, Crompton carried the weight of such extreme criticism alone. He chose not to go to his parents for fear they would worry.

Cont'd ...
