Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

Holy [Mark May], why did we ever fight a war to keep these people?

Phyllis never seems To disappoint when she calls in. I listen to Finebaum a few times a week for comic relief on the ESPiN app. His callers live up to the ignorant southern red neck stereotype. I shouldn't say all, but 99.8%, Phyllis is pure comedy gold when she calls in. Its even funnier when Alabama fans call in to argue with each other over their fandom. Or the hillbilly fans who literally live their entire lives around Bama football. I remember a caller a week ago saying he literally didnt leave his house for almost a week after the Sugar Bowl loss . And he saw no problem in not going to work or not doing anything because of the loss, and his wife would console him daily. Smh. I couldnt make tjis up if I tried. The show is like a train wreck, its hard not to look

Bama boosters pay off Saban's home

Nick Saban may earn in the area of $7 million per year, but that doesn't stop the Alabama faithful from helping out their championship-winning coach whenever and however they can.

According to a report from Al.com, the Crimson Tide Foundation paid off Saban's $3.1 million home in January 2013 even though the organization was under no obligation to do so.

The Sabans, who bought the 8,759 square-foot home in 2007, continue living there with the foundation picking up the tab for property taxes each year.

"It's not all that unusual in the world for universities to provide the housing," Scott Phelps, assistant secretary of the foundation, told Al.com, noting how the University of Alabama also owned the home of Paul "Bear" Bryant and his family. "We want to keep him happy. We think he is the best coach in America."

A spokesperson for the NCAA told Al.com that a coach's compensation is allowed to come from a university foundation.

Recruit says meeting Nick Saban 'was almost like talking to God'

Alabama coach Nick Saban is regarded as one of the brightest minds in the game, so one might imagine a high school recruit meeting him for the first time being a little star-struck.

And then some, it turns out.

This is how P.J. Blue, a 4-star outside linebacker out of Jemison, Ala., described coming face to face with the Tide coach.

"It was almost like talking to God," he said, according to AL.com.

Blue's not the first to reference Saban as divine. His apparent otherwordliness has even inspired great art, such as this chalk drawing depicting Bear Bryant as god and Saban as Adam:

But to others in the CFB community, he's less Saint Nick and more "Nicky Satan."
