WR Jalin Marshall (Edmonton Elks)

Great article with short highlight video:

Jalin Marshall has 4-TD day as No. 6 Ohio State tops Indiana

Jalin Marshall was the problem last week and the solution on Saturday for No. 6 Ohio State.

The freshman returned a punt 54 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter and then added three late insurance scores to carry the Buckeyes past Indiana 42-27, the Hoosiers' sixth loss in a row.

Marshall lost two fumbles in the Buckeyes' 31-24 win at Minnesota seven days before, but more than made up for those mistakes on a sunny and chilly day.

"If it's an effort problem, Jalin Marshall won't play. And it's not an effort issue with him," coach Urban Meyer said. "He's a talented guy. That was good for his confidence."

Marshall was ripped by Ohio State fans on social media after the fumbles.

"It's very satisfying but I'm not satisfied with the season yet," he said. "But it does feel good to kind of get that bear off my back -- all that negative stuff -- toward me."

I loved his acceleration into the end zone on that Jet Sweep to the right. He wanted to truck the defender instead of giving him an opportunity at the ball. Love it!

He was everything that Dontre is supposed to be and then some yesterday. I'd really love to see these 2 on the field at the same time with their potential realized.

With Dontre healthy I think you will. I still love Dontre, Jalin is just different and having both is just ridiculous.

I bet these performances by Jalin are going to be a huge motivator for Wilson when he gets back.

Jalin himself has said that Wilson is quicker and faster. If all of that translated on the field, there is no doubt that Wilson can have the same kind of success.

As part of a tradition for “Rivalry Week” — which concludes with Ohio State’s annual bout against Michigan Saturday in Columbus — the school’s Marching Band joins the football team after practice Sunday.

Jalin Marshall vs Ted Ginn as freshmen:

Ted Ginn (12 games)
12 rushes 113 yards 2 TD
25 receptions 359 yards 2 TD
15 punt returns 384 yards 4 TD
2 Kick returns 40 yards 0 TD________
55 touches 896 yards (16.3 avg) 8 TD
Big play TDs (6): receptions of 58, 59; punt returns of 60, 65, 67, 82

Jalin Marshall (11 games)
19 rushes 129 yards 1 TD
26 receptions 356 yards 6 TD
17 punt returns 240 yards 1 TD
2 kick returns 56 yards 0 TD________
64 touches 781 yards (12.2 avg) 8 TD
Big play TDs (4): run of 30; receptions of 54, 57, punt return of 54

Remember, Ginn appeared to be a bust early in his career:

1st 4 games: 44 yards, 0 TD
2nd 4 games: 271 yards, 3 TD
3rd 4 games: 581 yards, 5 TD

Ginn's breakout game came in Week 9 against Michigan State when he had a 17-yard TD run, 58-yard TD reception, and 60-yard punt return TD; he had 169 all-purpose yards and 3 total TD.

Here's how Marshall's season breaks down so far:

1st 4 games: 123 yards, 1 TD
2nd 4 games: 280 yards, 3 TD
3rd 4 games: 378 yards, 5 TD

Marshall's breakout game came in Week 11 against Indiana when he had four total TDs and 151 all-purpose yards.

Ginn and Marshall have had remarkably similar rookie campaigns, although Ginn was the better return man early in his career, and Marshall clearly benefits from a more wide-open offense.
