Bears +5.5 at 49ers (ov/un 38.5) Mon 8:40 ESPN

Chicago has no answer for this 49er offense tonight. To many looks & they're all working. Briggs is having a nightmare trying to keep up with Vernon Davis.

You'd think he'd know his position when the 49ers were actively pursuing Peyton Manning last offseason...and then signing him (Smith) to an extension when Manning signed with Denver.

I think he looked at it appropriately. He knew he was their guy unless they could get Peyton Manning.

Haven't been able to watch until now. Kaepernick's stats are crazy awesome considering what I expected, so this is a pleasant surprise. They'll go back to Smith when he's healthy, but this is probably Kaepernick's tryout for next year.

He looks pretty damned impressive. Crisp, accurate, and the offense is much more dynamic with him under center.

Well, so far, from what I've seen, it's the exact same offense that they run with Smith. Neither make any risky throws. Lots of little slants and dump-offs. When it works, this is what it looks like. Smith has games like this too. The problems come when they can't afford to run this offense. I'd like to see Kaepernick make some throws down the field before I'm sold.

Alex Smith has a passer rating of 104.1. Third in the NFL. So this offense is good for QB efficiency when they're winning. This is what we're seeing right now.

I agree, but I question whether Smith could do this against the Bears. Kaepernick's arm strength is worlds different, and he threaded a beauty of a deep ball to Kyle Williams. Smith is a game manager, Kaepernick could be a game changer.

...but, yeah, it's only one game. I probably shouldn't label him the righty Steve Young just yet.

Also, has anyone drafted better than SF recently? They've been laughed at for drafting guys like Aldon Smith and Kaepernick too high.. but they've turned out well. They have the luxury of not even playing their two top picks from last year's draft because they're so deep (AJ Jenkins and LaMichael James). Mike Iupati, Anthony Davis, Kendall Hunter, Michael Crabtree, Alex Boone, Aldon Smith, Navarro Bowman, Chris Culliver. Most of those guys are starting, and the ones who aren't play about half the time. Ridiculous drafting efficiency the last three years.

I'm seeing what they saw in him when they drafted him. I was pissed when they got him. I thought he was just going to end up as an unholy Tebow.
