Muck just systematically dismantled my post and I ain't even mad.

I forgot to add that the primary arguments 'against' from the Maryland side are the loss of regional rivalries (which is completely understandable). Funnily enough they are viewed by their 'rivals' (Duke & UNC) in about the same light as Ohio State views UC.

The second biggest argument is that it will be bad for the Lacrosse team.

No, I'm not joking.

"Good" in basketball? Depends on what your definition of good is.

In this case I define it as freakin' annoying. :)

For some reason even lots of folks in the Big Ten region don't realize how well respected Wisconsin is academically. In all seriousness Wisky is as snobbish academically as TSUN..."Allow Nebraska into our club? *sniff* I don't think so!"...but people only seem to remember the fat drunken buffoon aspect. Maybe it would help if your hair legged women's studies majors were more vocal.

The academic part wasnt forgivable to me as he was spouting off that the ACC was not just a little superior to the B1G but significantly so. He said all the BigTen had was Northwestern and Michigan and then Ohio State (patronizing me).

I asked what about Illinois and Wisconsin....he laughed and said they were decent like NCSU and Clemson. I just shook my head.

By the way, I know Wisconsin is more than good in BB.

The academic part is a little more unforgivable.

This weakens the conference IMO. This isn't about academic or athletics, this is about wringing all the money you can out of a TV network

The fact of life for an university (and it's athletic program): It has always been, it currently is, and (in the future) will always be about the money.

You expect Delaney to fix his colossal fuck up that are the divisions?

I honestly doubt it. He was very determined to keep Ohio State & TSUN in separate divisions. Lumping the three biggest money makers in the conference (the two above plus PSU) is still probably a bad idea.

My guess is that Bucky will just get moved west (even with the imbalance it causes).

BTW the above suggested divisions illustrates my long held fear over what will happen if the B1G grows to the east...Ohio State getting permanently shuffled in with all of the new eastern teams (Maryland, Rutgers & Penn State). Being stuck in Paterno's dream eastern conference doesn't appeal to me in the least.

Personally I'd rather see something along the lines of:

TSUN, Sparty, Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue,
Ohio State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern

Maybe...but I live in Ohio and don't get BTN. But my cable company (Armstrong) is based in Maryland so hope springs eternal.

We switched from armstrong to Dish this fall and love it, if teh NFL matters to you Directv would be better. The main thing driving that decision for us was no btn on armstrong. Looking at the total cost for 2 years of each (the sweetheart intro deals dish gives you expire after 1 year of a 2 year contract) dish was much cheaper for us with a better dvr and a brazillion more channels.

Washington Post:
University of Maryland in talks to join Big Ten
The University of Maryland is in talks to join the Big Ten Conference, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

One said the announcement of Maryland's move to the Big Ten could be made within days. Another said the University System of Maryland's Board of Regents was to be presented with a written proposal on Sunday, but has yet to vote on the issue. The board will meet Monday to discuss the issue after receiving a written summary from Wallace D. Loh, the school's president, and William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University of Maryland system.

.../snip/...

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the ACC's addition of Notre Dame as a full member in all sports except for football irked top Maryland officials, because it broke with the conference's traditional requirement that all members must participate in all sports.
That last bit is a new twist.

...and from the Newark Star Ledger:
Moving to the Big Ten is a no-brainer for Rutgers, but is it more than another tease?
Is this all just another big tease? Or are we days away from the biggest moment in Rutgers sports history?

Funny, isn't it, how those questions took on a different meaning as day turned to night today? First, they were all about a big road victory for Rutgers over Cincinnati, and how that might - might - catapult the Scarlet Knights to their first Big East title and major bowl appearance.

Then, the great wheel of conference realignment started spinning again, and just like that, the results on the field seemed trivial. That's because multiple reports had Rutgers in serious talks to become the 14th member of the Big Ten, which might - might - transform this program in ways it has only dreamed about for years.

So is it real? Or is it a tease?

.../snip/...

And Rutgers would bring value to the Big Ten, too, despite what is sure to be a seasons of wisecracks if the move becomes official. It’s amazing how many experts have already discounted the move because Rutgers “doesn’t really bring the New York City market,” ignoring the nine million people who live in New Jersey.

Hey, we buy cable, too.

.../cont/...
Again the second part being an interesting point that people tend to forget.

If this does happen I'm still not 100% certain how I feel about it BUT as adamant as I've been against Rutgers I have to admit that they (mostly) seem genuinely excited about the idea and that can't be all bad.

Oh and Fuck M******n. Go Bucks!
