GT just doesn't do it for me. I would much, much rather see UVA.

Pitt really doesn't bring anything to the table unless we were to let ped aggy leave, which we won't.

If i had the choice between Ga Tech and UVA then i'd rather have UVA, but if I had a choice between Ga Tech and Rutgers...give me Ga Tech

I didn't mean that has a reason to have Ga Tech instead of rutgers, just meant that's why they would go after them

Potential television windfall driving Big Ten's latest expansion efforts - Sports Illustrated

The University of Maryland's Board of Directors will decide Monday whether to defect from the ACC to the Big Ten. If Maryland decides to leave, Rutgers will join the Terps as their dance partner.

When news first surfaced Saturday that Maryland was considering leaving a nearly six-decade relationship with the ACC to join the Big Ten, many wondered why. The answer is simple: television and money, the two biggest drivers behind the realignment chaos that's indelibly altered the collegiate landscape the past three years.

According to a television executive familiar with the Northeast corridor, the move could ultimately be worth as much as $200 million annually for the Big Ten in cable subscription fees. This is a Pollyannaish figure that's unlikely to ever materialize, but it shows the scope of the potential value. The interesting part, considering the current cable climate, is that the potential move also comes with considerable risk.

from my MD friend again
Same people who passed down the BIG10 move for us, said UMD is heavily heavily heavily lobbying UVA and UNC to join them. They are really pushing the Big Public School conference angle. It would be an absolute power house of academics if they did that.
MD, UVA, and UNC would be a huge home run. If we got those three, I wouldn't even care if Rutgers was the fourth.

Not if the cable companies disagree. State X could have 100 million cable subscribers and it wouldn't mean jack if they don't demand to have the BTN on the basic tier to see a few State X University games a year.

Have you seen the Fox/YES Network rumors?

ie That Fox is looking to bundle the BTN with YES.

News Corporation Said to Be Close to Acquiring Stake in YES Network

News Corporation is close to acquiring a stake in the YES Network, the New York-based cable channel that broadcasts Yankees baseball and Nets basketball games, among other regional sports, a person briefed on the discussions said Wednesday. The companies are still in negotiations, but a deal could be finalized soon, possibly as early as Friday, according to the person, who could not comment publicly because the talks were ongoing.

Partly owned by the Yankees and available in more than 15 million homes, the YES Network — short for Yankees Entertainment and Sports — would add significant heft to News Corporation’s already large portfolio of regional sports assets and fits into the company’s strategy of building its sports television business.

how did their disagreement work out for them last time?

people confuse local followings with CFB followings, even moreso if you start tossing in Maryland PR unc basketball too. There are a ton of transplanted B1G fans in that region, and DirecTV will set the tone by having it as a base channel.
