There is no other way to look at it. Football is the only thing that matters.
Football i$ important, but to $ay it'$ the only thing that matter$ i$n't quite true. Obviou$ly academic$ and culture played a big part. In the end, it really only come$ down to one thing. And apparently Delany and Co. felt they were getting enough of that to $atisfy them.

More and more, I keep thinking the Big Ten's next television deal will be with FOX rather than ESPN (since some are talking about FOX, YES Network, Rutgers and the New York market).

FOX already owns part of BTN, has the rights to the conference championship game and would perhaps overpay for the conference.

The Big Ten would probably have to agree to night games in November.

I did read something recently that News Corp is trying to get into the sports game much deeper than they have been to this point. Perhaps you're right.

We're not just doing it for money...We're doing it for a shitload of money!

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/pete_thamel/11/19/maryland-big-ten-money/index.html

When Maryland joins the Big Ten in 2014, it projects to make more than $12 million more than it would have in the ACC. That projected difference jumps to $19 million annually in 2017 after the Big Ten renegotiates its television contract.
According to the official, Maryland projects to make $32 million when it joins the league for the 2014-15 season, well beyond the ACC's projected payout of $20 million.
The real jump in projected revenue comes in 2017, after the Big Ten negotiates its new television contract. The Big Ten payout that year projects to $43 million, dwarfing the $24 million the ACC projects to pay out that year.

Only problem with going exclusively with Fox and the BTN is the ESPiN talking heads that 90% of the college football fanbase outside of the B1G listen to for all things college football would ignore that the B1G still exists.

Money talks so if Fox offers the most goodbye ESPiN.

But you can also see a split deal. ESPN/ABC gets top game and the noon games and Fox gets 3:30 games or however you want to split it to maximize TV payouts from both parties.

I just realized that BTN's "The Journey" just added two more mouths.

If you watched the football version this Fall, BTN may have been better served to start the series right when the season started (rather than October).

Too many stories and not enough time. For example, Ohio State has only been featured twice thus far (John Simon and Braxton).

While on BTN, don't be shocked if Under Armour is now a heavy sponsor on BTN and BTN gives a behind the scenes tour of Under Armour's HQ (if content is needed).

Probably. ESPN and Fox just went in on a bid together for the Barclay's Premier League (which they lost to NBCSN) and previously got together for the Big XII deal. So they can work together.

I would've been against this a couple years ago. IMO, being on Fox was really hurting the Pac10, but now Fox has started to take CFB broadcasting more seriously. Not only do they have their premier games showing on the Fox Network. They have games on FX, the FSN regionals, BTN, and soon YES.

Please no. I hate Fox coverage.

This would be my main concern too. Hopefully Fox would step up to the plate and add a channel that could compete with the 'World Wide Leader (in soap opera drama)'. Because if the B1G walks, be prepared for coverage to go the way of NHL and Olympic coverage, i.e. the bare minimum.

Only difference is, in CFB, stuff like that actually matters.
