Still do not understand why the Big Ten would even "float out" the plan for conference offices on the East Coast if there are only two East Coast schools (not counting Penn State).

Unless there are more schools coming.

Maryland in line for huge financial bump in wake of Big Ten move

The University of Maryland stands to make nearly $100 million more in conference revenue by 2020 with its switch from the ACC to the Big Ten, according to projected revenue information presented to the school by Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, SI.com has learned.

The projected information shows how Maryland could afford its $50 million buyout from the ACC, a fee the school is expected to attempt to reduce through legal action.

When Maryland joins the Big Ten in 2014, it projects to make more than $12 million more than it would have in the ACC. That projected difference jumps to $19 million annually in 2017 after the Big Ten renegotiates its television contract.

According to the official, Maryland projects to make $32 million when it joins the league for the 2014-15 season, well beyond the ACC's projected payout of $20 million.

In case anyone cares, PurpleBookCat has been weighing in on Wildcat Report. I enjoyed his perspective during the last round of realignment...

We're inching closer to the fascinating final chapters.

The target dates have not changed since last year. Jim Delany has in the shadows amassed his resources as the chatter surrounding expansion died down. Football season, for each of the past several years, has provided a convenient cover for Delany to manouver. In the past few months, the major networks and the heads of the three most powerful conferences have solidified their plans. Simply put, the SEC, the PAC and the B1G will make up the three 16 team super-conferences. Everyone else will play in on their own.

This is where the B1G stands today: Texas wants in, Notre Dame does not - yet. Delany has successfully dismantled the Big Twelve to the brink of collapse. Delany expects two of WVU, North Carolina, FSU and Miami to move to the SEC. Delany over the past several months has had ongoing discussions with Syracuse, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Maryland. Two of these four will likely follow Texas and Notre Dame to the B1G. The evaluation of these schools has ranged from facilities planning to alumni success. Internal speculation is that Georgia Tech and Maryland are the favorites at this point. Rutgers continues to attempt to force the situation, but is not a preferred choice.

The breakup of the ACC now serves one purpose: to separate Notre Dame's key decision makers from their resolve and ability to stay independent. Until the 5 game schedule with the ACC, many at ND were increasingly supportive of a move to the B1G. The insane deal that the ACC gave to ND made some of those people believe that ND could have its cake and eat it too. Delany wants to squash that immediately. He will stop at nothing to break up the ACC to force ND back into the discussion. He will have help.

Pay attention to the SEC. Silve owes Delany for A&M. Also less directly for Mizzou. Florida State should be the first domino to fall. Put it this way: Silve is Stalin, Delany is Roosevelt. Neither shares the same dogmas, but both know that the only way to win the war is to work together. This will be fun to watch.

I've been saying this all along but the BTN is pretty good...they are throwing out praise and insight left and right. Loh should have just provided a link to the BTN and let the BOR and fans watch...he would have saved himself the trouble of trying to persuade anyone. I may need to call a doctor as my erection will be lasting for more than 4 hours.

I don't really understand the 3 superconference thing unless you let the rest of college football have a playoff to find the 4th member of a 4 team playoff. I do like the idea of the Big12 and ACC not mattering in the grand scheme. Let the B1G, SEC, and Pac take what they want and then piece together the 4th conference out of what's left.

97.1 The Fan brought up a good point with big Michigan-Rutgers/Ohio State-Rutgers games bringing in recruits from the east. They don't see us play often.

That would be a bonus of tOSU being in the same division as Rutgers and MD and scUM not. We would get to play an east coast game every year.

I dunno. Personally, I think the Big XII is stable since Texas has what they want. Control of a conference? Check. Guaranteed third tier TV rights beginning at $11 million and escalating yearly? Check. A place for their conference the table against the SEC in the Championship Bowl? Check.

As for ND, they'd have to come to the B1G with their tail between their legs, and they are too smug to do it.

Personally, I see FSU talking to the Big XII really soon rather than the SEC.

See? the pedsters were clamoring for their BoT to leave the B1G and go to the ACC. Schools in the ACC got wind of it and are jumping ship in order to stay away from that cancerous growth in the middle of bumfuck Pennshitolia.

At least that is what I like to think happened just so the pedsters get more pissed off.

If GT ends up in the B1G after all of this, it will get really interesting around work come football season since the owner, COO, and CFO are all GT grads.

Do you think it will be much of a culture shock for the new guys to go from this:

There is no other way to look at it. Football is the only thing that matters.

No, no, no. TV is the only thing that matters. To use a baseball analogy, football is the catcher's mitt - TV is the hand controlling it. Delany is smart enough to see that those who control the television sets control the sport. This has more to do with the BTN than the teams playing on it.

At the moment the East Coast is an untapped resource. For the most part they're pro sports fans. But with the tens of millions of potential viewers out there, if we can develop them into actual viewers, dedicated sports fans, then we'll have a huge base from which to negotiate future TV contracts.

Delany plays the long game. He's two or three moves ahead of what we're seeing here. I don't necessarily know that I fully trust him - he's like the pet bear you're never sure is fully tame - but as Churchill said about Chennault, "I'm just glad that man is on our side."

He may be an asshole, but he's an intelligent, self-interested asshole. He knows that UNC is in play. He knows that the ACC played with fire when they gave the domers safe refuge. He knows that they messed with the bull, and now they're getting the horns. He knows that we're going to burn that conference to the [censored]ing ground. He knows that we learned our lesson from his asshole friend JoePed, and we won't be bringing in any other megalomaniacal asshole legends to become cancers in the conference. He knows that he's [censored]ed like a ten dollar whore.

Make us a sandwich on your way out, Coach.
