The same could be said about Georgia Tech and the SEC

The difference being that UC & SDSU are not far better schools than the in-state competition from a major conference. :p

In terms of academics or strictly football?

In terms of value to a major conference which already has members in the same state.

Clemson & Pitt are in similar boats.

GT would bring nothing to the SEC compared to an NCSt or V-Tech that would bring them new markets. To the B1G GT has great academic's in a huge market. I think GT will always be little brother to Georgia, but a move to the B1G would hopefully help them improve on the field and would be well worth it for the B1G as long as they could get the BTN on the standard package in Atlanta.

I know it's a bad example, but it's like saying the B1G would never take ISU, Cincy, or Pitt (unless Ped State gets blown up). A second school in Iowa, Ohio, or PA would do nothing to help the B1G.

Yes, it's from MGoBlog, but "Seth" did his homework and makes a lot of good points re: division alignment. I pretty much agree with the divisions he came up with: http://mgoblog.com/content/hokepoints-wants-divisions-consensus

Other than the driving distance for the other division, it's great.

I read the comments - MGO really doesn't know if Buckeye fans want Michigan in their division? I'm pretty sure that most of BP was going to go raze Gene Smith and Jim Delaney's houses if they put them in opposite divisions & changed the rivalry game.

Right, I think he did a pretty good job of trying to rationalize the factor of driving distance. Ultimately, either distance, geographic sense, or rivalries will need to be compromised, and I think Seth explained his thought process pretty well.

What if they did something like this:

"Leaders":

Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Indiana
Purdue
Illinois
Northwestern

"Legends":

Penn State
Maryland
Rutgers
Nebraska
Iowa
Wisconsin
Minnesota

Splits up the "kings", fairly evenly balanced keeps all the important matchups on a yearly basis and it would piss off the Pedsters because they have to travel more.

:wink2:
