Big Ten Conference Divisions

It's the Big 10's way of saying "Bend over and grab your ankles, you are going to like our names." In a year from now they will come up with some statement that says that we are too far past the point of change.

F Delany.

^-- this --^ It's typical political trumped-up excuses and rationalization.

:slappy:

Is Jim married? This is equivalent to me buying a car, showing it to my wife (her hating it), and me still driving off of the lot with it expecting [Mark May] to be fine once she gets used to it.

Truth be told, my wife won't ever let me live it down.

Yeah, he's married :)

The only reason I can't make a big deal of this, even though I 100-percent agree the names are pretentious, is people were criticizing the man for creating a conference TV network. That followed with every other conference (and Texas) wanting to copycat or piggy-back on that idea.

But if Jim Delany doesn't hold ESPN (CBS for basketball) up for ransom for every cent imaginable when the TV contracts expire in four years, then he's a doubly-moron in my book.

Criticism was for different reasons there. It was assumed that such a network could not thrive.

Now he is looking like a Grandpa that is out of touch with his fan base.

** Edit **

Not only that, we also just got embarrassed in the bowl games. We're taking some heavy artillery from other conferences and I think these names open ourselves up for more criticism. This is like missing a huge tackle in your high school state championship that causes you to lose the game and then wearing a teeshirt to school on Monday that says "I'm a winner."

Fail on many levels.

I don't think Delany cares about other conferences (off the field), considering his conference makes more money than those other conferences on an annual basis (in all measurable aspects). The only thing he sees at this moment is the bottom line and that hasn't been effected yet.

He'll change something once revenue (both conference and/or individual school) is effected due to the division names.

The division names are stupid beyond belief. But what does it really matter? Once the teams hit the field, the names of the divisions will be immaterial.

Problem is it will probably be all over big ten championship shirts / hats, plus we'll have to hear it constantly on ESPiN...

On a 1 to 10 scale of importance, this issue won't rate very highly. But by the same token, on a scale of 1 to 10 on ease of fixin', it's ranks very highly. That's really my only point...

The issues I have are that - yes, the names are stupid and fucking pompous beyond belief, moreover; that Delaney put up a show of being open to changing them in light of public opinion, which was clearly against the names - then has done absolutely squat. Guess Delaney wants to add one of hypocrite, elitist or liar to his reputation - which to this point had been fairly clean.
