1st Quarter

A very game Indiana squad opened the game with high intensity and stopped the Buckeyes dead in their tracks on the first three and out series. The Hoosiers didn’t have much success themselves on offense early.

Then they found the hole they needed with a long pass play to their TE and settled for a field goal and the Hoosiers go up 3-0 early.

Cardale Jones hits a wide-open Marshall for a long gain but the Buckeyes offense stalls and they punt where Vonn Bell misses an opportunity to down the ball at the one as the ball slips out of his hands for a touchback.

Indiana takes the ball back and starts to match down the field as the first quarter ends with Ohio State not scoring in the first quarter for the first time this season and only 12 plays 36 total yards. Indiana with 114.

Indiana 3, #1 Ohio State 0

2nd Quarter

Hoosiers make it inside the red zone early in the second and face a 3rd and 8 when a completion to Paige sets up 1st and goal. 80 yard drive finished by Redding puts the Hoosiers up 10-0 with 13:38 left

Nick Vannett is the workhorse during the next Buckeye series as they start to move the ball. A completion to Wilson gets them in the redzone. A five yard run by Elliott and then a loss left them at 3rd and 3 and Jones first incompletion of the game misses Vannett in the endzone.

Willoughby hits from 23 to wipe away the goose egg 10-3 Indiana 10:21 to go.

If not for some of Indianas receivers not having good hands Buckeyes would be down more and a shanked punt gives the Buckeyes great field position to start their next drive.

Long pass play to Marshall is fumbled as he tries to make a play to score. Turnover gives Hoosiers the ball on their own 7 and possibly momentum after the fumble recovery. Silver Bullets hold and the Buckeyes get the ball back as the Hoosiers try a fake punt and fail.

Ezekiel uses the hurdle on first carry for a gain of five and Jones struggles to hit Thomas for a sure score. Marshall cannot haul in the rocket from Cardale and Willoughby hits the 26 yarder to close the gap to four with 6:50 to go.

Indiana takes the ball down the field while getting a couple breaks and makes one fourth and centimeters, and bluffs on 4th and 2 then takes a delay penalty and punts away to Buckeyes with 3:01 left in the half.

Jalin Marshall hauls in a long gainer to start the drive and take the Buckeyes into Indiana territory. Two plays later Cardale hits Corey Smith and the Buckeyes are in business at the 25.

Cardale overthrows Vannett but hits Thomas inside the 15. Ezekiel Elliott scores from 15 but it comes back after a block below the waste penalty on Braxton Miller.

A loss after the penalty with a coverage sack then a completion to Thomas on second down has the Buckeyes needing a lot of yards just for a first down at the three. Buckeyes face a third and long and fumble the snap. Willoughby bangs the 43 yarder off the upright.

Indiana 10, #1 Ohio State 6

INDIANA

Nate Sudfeld 9/17 113 yards

Jordan Howard 11 carries for 30

Devine Redding 12 carries 26 yards, TD

Anthony Corsaro(TE) 2 catches for 47 yards

OHIO STATE

Cardale Jones 13/17 200 yards, 6 carries for -17 yards

Ezekiel Elliott 10 carries and only 31 yards

Jalin Marshall 4 catches 97 yards

Willoughby 2/3 on FGs

Save for a few plays, the Buckeyes defense has been doing their job. Need to step it up in second half. Tyquan Lewis was the workhorse for the Buckeyes in the first half

3rd Quarter

Hoosiers gain some yards but misfire in the passing game and punt back to the Buckeyes who start at their own 7 under 13 in the third and go three and out, which the Hoosiers match and the Buckeyes takeover after a penalty riddled punt return.

Buckeyes get a first down via Braxton’s second carry of the day, and Ezekiel gains some yards and then takes one to the house from 53 yards out and makes a leap into the endzone Buckeyes finally lead 13-10 under 9 in the third.

Silver bullets continue to fire on all cylinders and hold Hoosiers to another three and out, and Buckeyes are back in business inside Indiana territory at the 42 but trade three and outs over the next couple drives.

With 5:50 left in the third the Buckeyes take over at the Indiana 37. Zeeeeeeeeke echoes through memorial stadium after a 18 yard gain to the Hoosier 19.

A run by Ezekiel and huge loss on the sack led to an interception by Scales puts Hoosiers in business. Silver Bullets with their backs against the walls give up a score by Redding at the 2:23 mark up and Hoosiers retake the lead 17-13.

A bad injury to Corey Smith stops play for a few minutes as he gets carted off the field in obvious pain.

Buckeyes go for it on 4th and short and Zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeke takes it to the house again from 65 yards out! Extra point by Willoughby is good and Buckeyes retake the lead.

Buckeyes begin to roll and Jalin Marshall puts them in position again with a 37 return. Ezekiel Elliot finishes the third with 17 carries for 190 yards and 2 long TD runs to be the difference in the game.

#1 Ohio State 20, Indiana 17

4th Quarter

Buckeyes start the fourth with a 24 yard strike to a wide open Michael Thomas and the extra point was good Buckeyes up 27-17 with all the fourth to go.

Silver Bullets continue to clamp down, despite the score they forced five three and outs in the last six drives by the Hoosiers. Add to that not having to worry about Sudfeld or Howard who are out with injuries. Buckeyes may lead the category for injuries caused this season, if it’s kept!

Silver Bullets have to go back on the field after another fumble by Jalin Marshall that doesn’t get overturned on video review. Diamont starts moving the Hoosiers down the field and gets them some momentum with a 34 yard field goal to close the gap with 10:37 left.

After I tweeted there’s a number to call here Zeeeeeeeeeeeke goes 75 yards for the score. Buckeyes on top 34-20. I am thinking of retiring as the recap writer. I’m tuckered! And as I am typing this Diamont goes 80 yards for the score.

10:03 left in the game and Buckeyes cling to a 34-27 lead and the crowd is enjoying something special like over there two years ago.

Buckeyes offense sputters and punts back to Indiana with around 8 to go in the game. Diamont can’t convert and the Hoosiers punt back to the Buckeyes and they take over at own 15 with 6:01 needing to be spent off the clock.

The Buckeyes fail to convert on 3rd and 4 and punt back to the Hoosiers with under four minutes left. Hoosiers move the ball and are aided by another Buckeyes personal foul and need a Silver Bullet stop.

Inside two minutes and the Hoosiers get help from a pass interference penalty against the Buckeyes after a big loss then connects on a first down inside the redzone. A completion to Jones inside the ten puts the Hoosiers in a position to score and tie.

False start on the Hoosiers and an incomplete pass to Fuchs sets up 3rd and goal at the 10 and a tackle if Diamont at the 8 brings up 4th and goal and possibly the ballgame. A bad snap puts Diamont on the run and the pass falls incomplete and the Buckeyes survive on Bloomington!
