Cavs 2010-11 season (official thread)

No LeBron, no draft picks, bad Jamison contract spells sucko Cavaliers. First to near-worst in my view. Unfortunate.

For those who are on the bash-Bronnie crusade, let me just ask you this: would you really be eager to remain on a team on which one of your teammates was fucking your mom? Just throwing it out there ...

If I'm 25 and my Mom is 42... has the history she has... you're illegitimate.. I'm not surprised anything my Mom does... plus I know Delonte is a head case... so, I'm not sure it'd have any affect on me at all..

If anything, I'd ask my Mom... WTF?

Call me naive but the is just a running joke right? West is not really nailing his mom........is he?

Nobody has denied it.. would be pretty easy to deny it. Someone put out a statement addressing it, but the statement didn't say it didn't happen I don't think.

I could be wrong.

so in this sign and trade

we get a " $15 million trade exception"

what exactly does this do?

NM

Traded Player Exception: If a team trades away a player with a higher salary than the player they acquire in return (we'll call this initial deal "Trade #1"), they receive what is called a Traded Player Exception, also known colloquially as a "Trade Exception". Teams with a trade exception have up to a year in which they can acquire more salary in other trades (Trade #2, #3, etc) than they send away, as long as the gulf in salaries for Trade #2, #3, etc are less than or equal to the difference in salary for Trade #1. This exception is particularly useful when teams trade draft picks straight-up for a player; since draft picks have no salary value, often the only way to get salaries to match is to use a trade exception, which allows trades to be made despite unbalanced salaries. It is also useful to compensate teams for losing free agents as they can do a sign and trade of that free agent to acquire a trade exception that can be used later. Note this exception is for single player trades only, though additional cash and draft picks can be part of the trade.

It means the Cavs are going to not renounce the rights to any of their free agents. (Delonte, Shaq, not sure who else) This will allow the Cavs to make a trade with a team that is looking to get some cap space. The trade exception is used basically as a way to free up cap space for another team while giving the Cavs a trade-able asset. This will also allow them to explore trades for Delonte because they are not renouncing his rights to clear cap room.

This allows Dan Gilbert to try to find a player to help the Cavs now and keep them a "winner" while still picking up draft picks to help build towards the future. Main name being thrown around is Al Jefferson but surely will have some other names thrown around over the weekend. The Barbosa for Delonte and Moon deal could potentially happen now too.

To the folks saying that they don't see anything worthwhile in upcoming drafts, try to remember that the #1 overall pick the last few years was a freshman. Meaning one & done, so there could be a superstar who hasn't played a college game yet who could help out any team, a la Derrick Rose/John Wall. =]

The future picks can't possibly be worth that much. They're future HEAT picks, meaning they'll likely be in the bottom 5 picks of their respective rounds. They're better to use as trade bait (without having to sacrifice your own, possibly higher picks) than to count on to bring in actual talent.

I keep hearing different opinions on the actual value of the trade exception. If it does have value, I hope they can get something done that will help out Byron Scott. Potentially, this team could be kinda fun to watch (even if they're not as good.

From Windhorst: For those asking a trade exception is like cap space but can only be used in a trade. Can be used in whole or part. Lasts 1 year.

I'm hearing 16 million trade exception...

But I hope we build the team the right way..
