Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Browns: vs Washington, @Denver, @Pitt
Steelers: @Dallas, vs Cincy, vs Cleveland
Bengals: @Philly, @Pitt, vs Baltimore

It is a little bit of a reach, but...(pause)...the Browns could actually make the playoffs.

RG3 is hurt, Denver might be resting players, and the Steelers blow

What needs to happen:
1. Browns win out
2. Steelers & Bengals go 1-2 (or worse)

Then it would come to tie break (division record). If the Browns win out, they have 3 division wins. Only Pitt could finish 1-2 and match that. But, we hold the next tie break (head to head) over them. So we would go to the playoffs, LOL.

Next week will almost be the decider.

The Jets & Dolphins also are a potential problem if they get to 8 wins. Idk how that would work out.

If they all go 8-8 according to the ESPIN playoff machine that means the Browns go to the playoffs.

BTW if San Diego goes 8-8 the Browns win the head to head.

This is an improving, young team. It only requires a piece here and there to be good.

I hate to say it - if this team finishes out the season strong, while playing at a good level. Meanwhile Shurmur can continue to actually put some effort into coaching and gameplans. Maybe we shouldn't blow up this staff quite yet.

I hope that fire never goes out from under Greg Little. Gordon will be a stud this time next year. Weeden is an average QB right now. Which is
by far and away better then what Cleveland usually has. If he evens develops a little bit further (more decisive, less double-clutch, more 'touch') then you could have a very good offense.

Trent needs to get healthy. If we finish 7-9. The primo defensive players are gone. Fuck it, grab Barrett Jones or Warmack. Make the Oline dominant. Because our guard play is well below average when running the ball.

Maybe a play in Free Agency. Move Sheldon to FS. Get Patterson healthy as our #2 CB. Take a shot on a Gillislee, or Lester or perhaps a developmental pass rusher.

If the coaches can even remotely develop young talent, then put them in schemes and gameplans close to giving them a chance to excel - dear god we could have a playoff team in Cleveland.

Good teams blow out lesser teams. That's what we did today that we haven't done previously. I'm ahead in my quarterfinal fantasy playoff by 90 points with Brees and Graham still to go.

This, my long suffer Cleveland friends, is a good day.
Good post and for the most part I agree with you. However when it comes to the draft, I don't care where we are picking I would not select a OL . They can be found in later rounds where you can pick up a guard in free agency. We still don't know about Pinkston. I am also not sure how good Patterson really is because we have not seen much of him. That's why I think we need to draft a DB or find a good one in free agency.

As I stated last week, I do not think that Banner should blow up the whole thing unless Shurmur does something stupid in the last four games with game management and playcalling. I think his game management skills came into question when he challenged that uncalled TD today even when we had the ball first and 10 anyway but I will give him a pass on that. However, there are 3 more games remaining. At times, I also question his playcalling. I don't understand why he didn't use the wildcat when we had the ball on the 3 yard line and failed to score but he waited until we had the ball around midfield to use the wildcat.

I am still a little unsure about Weeden because every once in a while he thinks he can throw the ball through all 11 defenders in one of these days it's going to cost us big time. I just hope that he learns that he cannot throw a touchdown on every play.

For the first time in a while, I can see a glimmer of hope but let's wait until the season plays out before we give Shurmur another season. He has shown us before that he can do some pretty stupid things.

I guess it's really not too far-fetched after all. Pittsburgh is really playing down and Cincinnati will lose at least one of their last three. I just don't know if we can win all of our last three.

Just tested out the ESPN playoff machine myself, the only team that could beat us in an 8-8 tiebreaker would be Buffalo, because they beat us earlier this season. We would make it in over the Jets & Dolphins, for whatever reason. Probably strength of schedule.

Granted, the Jets, Steelers, and Bengals can still get 9 wins.

So it looks like the most important game, besides the Browns needing to win out, will be the Steelers at Cowboys next week. It will be hard to get off the tank bandwagon, but just think where this team would be if Haden hadn't been suspended for 4 games.

I agree with the people that are saying to get the guards as FA's and focus on defense early in the draft. We need a pass rushing OLB or a CB with the first pick. Even with a pick in the 10-20 range they should be able to get an impact player. We just have to hope that we keep lucking out with the projects like Gordon.
