Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

If Banner is going to give the HC so much authority, I would think that they are looking at someone who has probably been a HC in the NFL before. I can't see them giving a college coach that much authority expressly with player personnel decisions not to mention the actual football coaching.

Any possibility Reid gets a look here? He might bring the experience that this team needs to take the next step. Granted things were tough the last couple of years in Philly, but I still think he has the ability to help a franchise like the Browns.

Not a fan of him...

Thoughts on a Lovie Smith HC, Norv OC combo?

I'd start by throwing a pile of money at Gruden. If that doesn't work I'd go after Lovie Smith and have him find an OC that can run an offense with what the Browns have to work with. Smith would be able to build on the defense that the Browns already have in place and has been a successful NFL HC.

Spend the draft making the D better with the high picks and look to sign a few key FA's to fill out the other holes.

Bring back Dawson even if they have to overpay. I'd hate to lose games that they need to win because they are breaking in a new kicker. I'd like to see a deal that is light on bonus, but an even year to year pay for as long as he is able to be a successful NFL kicker. If he demands a bonus I'd look to guarantee the first few years and then make everything else more of a year to year deal.

Greatest Needs:
Pass rush DE/OLB or
near Haden level CB
at least one guard
S (could be Sheldon Brown for the right price)
TE that can block and catch to replace Watson although Cameron will be the starter
FB (Boren please - good blocker, good catcher, good at ST's)

I know the expectations are high in Chicago but I cannot understand why Lovie was fired. That would not be too bad of a tandem but bringing to former HCs to one team might cause some conflict.

True but Banner and Haslam just need to remind Norv how shitty he is as ahead coach then remind him of his 3 rings as an OC

Two straight late season melt-downs (3-7 in December combined) and one playoff appearance in the last six years. That'll get you canned most anywhere.

I would not mind that at all. Gruden first and then Smith.

With regards to Dawson, I thought I read someplace that since he has been franchised for the past two years that they would almost have to pay him close to $10 mil in order to bring him back if he does not sign on his own. I could be totally wrong with regard to that but that's what I thought the article said.

I agree with the needs and hopefully Haslam will tell Banner to throw some of his money to sign some quality free agents. The hell with the cap. I am tired of losing.

I read a similar article. I guess if a team tries to franchise the same player more than twice he will then be paid the average of the three or five highest players in the league, regardless of position. They need to just sign him to a 3-year deal and let him retire a Brown.
