Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

Status
Not open for further replies.
For having an offense that was flat out ineffective
At times: their two best play makers gone nearly
25% of the season and 50% of the season, finally
Coupled with injuries up and down the roster...

I'd say those numbers really aren't that bad.

I too like the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" line if thinking and I too thought the defense was looking decent. But the numbers don't support that "belief":

Browns defenseGame Averages (2012)

PTS per game 23.0 (ranked 19th)

YDS per game 363.8 (ranked 23rd)

PASS YDS per game 245.2 (ranked 25th)

RUSH YDS per game 118.6 (ranked 19th)

While I was hoping for a Smith/Turner combo, I will give Chud a chance. I am neither excited nor angry about the hire. I am still most concerned about Jimmy and Joe. Jimmy is showing early signs of following the Jones/Davis owner model and Banner has been on a major power grab and I think he is starting to believe that he is a talent evaluator too.

I have had an uncomfortable feeling about Jimmy and Joe for a couple of months....hope I am wrong.
Before I make any rash judgments like some people are doing, I will wait until the Browns name a DC and see what type of system he is going to run. We will need the same defensive players through free agency or the draft if we run a 3-4 or 4-3. We will still need a OLB/RDE, a safety and a CB.

I am a little worried about Haslam/Banner also but Banner stated yesterday that Chud will dictate all of the player moves so in a way Banner is relinquishing some of his control with regards to the players but is he getting too much control to the HC. I guess time will tell.

and joe thomas was hurt off and on this year, pinkston missed 75% of the season, trent richardson was hurt all year, and ben watson missed time with a concussion. but the offense doesn't get to use that excuse for being ineffective.

watching jauron flounder while a kirk cousins lead washington team ran the same 3 plays for an entire half is all i needed to see.

Lets not act like Pinkston was a franchise worthy guard. Did anyone notice
The difference in play between him and say... Greco?? JT did play hurt, but
why the offense is ineffective is almost irrelavent to the point I'm trying
To make - being that the defense was in a pretty rough situation on a consistent basis.

I very much agree about the Washington Game though. Jauron was absolutely under Prepared and out coached. Zero excuse for that. I have no problems
Switching coordinators or defensive schemes. I just hope it's done while being
Conscious of the defensive personnel we have on roster.

I don't think we are that bad off with the personnel. We have Taylor/ Rubin at the nose tackle, and Winn played 3-4 end at Bosie state. Jackson can play one of the inside LB position, all the other LBs sucked. My only question is what do we do with Sheard, trade him?

Sheard can line up at DE on passing downs and unless we draft a pass rusher - he'll be at the 5tech a lot.

Our rotation up front wil probably be Taylor, Rubin & Winn. With Taylor and Sheard rotating positions on the line. Hughes coming in to spell Taylor or Rubin.

I wonder if this will give Emmanuel Acho a chance to be a pass rusher in camp?
Or perhaps we take a stab at Alex Okafor in a middle round...?

I think if we can get another star player (or two is even better), that could really catapult this Offense into another level. Just need some more play making ability

OT: May I ask why your posts go to the next line after only using like 1/8th of the posting space?

Or if we could develop our QB and put him in positions to succeed.

NO idea about the lines - posting from my Iphone, I'll assume that has something to do with it.

Almost every team in the NFL runs some form of a 4-3, 3-4 defense. Sheard played about 1/2 of his time standing up so I don't think he will have to be rotated in and out. He is pretty quick and I have read that before the draft he was projected as a possible OLB in the NFL.

We need to get the same players from free agency/draft if we go 4-3 or 3-4. I don't care what we run as long as we win more than Bungles, Squealers, or the Ratbirds.

Not really. In this 43 we would have been ok
At linebacker for this year - allowing us to target
Shazier to play the SAM and bring the athletic ability
That we will need.

Now. We need talent and depth immediately at just
Linebacker alone. On top of a #2CB and a FS.

Of course we could take care of one of those needs in FA

Edit. I agree. Scheme is second to winning. If we win. I
Don't care how we do it- ill just be happy to live to see a
Winning team back in Cleveland.

We haven't done that since DA's good year. We haven't allowed our QB's to throw the ball down field. And when they did, they succeeded in doing so

Let's wait and see who they bring in as DC before we make any judgments. I still think we have the talent on the roster to go to a 3-4 if we can get a couple additions from free agency for a OLB. Maybe we can bring in Anthony Spencer for a year as a stopgap measure or maybe we can find one in the draft. I still think Sheard could adapt very easily.

Again winning will solve everything:)
