Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

Vaguely I've only heard the negative on Lombardi but when I watched the A Football Life about the move from Cleveland to Baltimore it made it look like Belichick taught Lombardi how to evaluate and create a "Big Board" when it comes to drafting..I may be "rambling a little but my main point is we must be major players in free agency and my opinion that Mathieu will be an above average NFL player...I respect your guys opinions and input..I may be wrong but I'm sick of us signing second or third tier free agents and bringing a coach's "guys" ex. Kenyon Coleman; Abe Elam; etc. and expect us to be happy with the pathetic product.

Lombardi was the senior player person when Al Davis took a gas can and matches to the entire Raiders organization. There are other examples as well but I think that should be sufficient to question his credentials.

He was also a heavy influence on the Browns mind-boggling drafts in the early-mid '90s. The man is a boob.

Matthieu is a 2nd and 3rd tier cover man. He's a great special-teams player,
With good ability to make plays in the turnover department. His cover abilities
We're exposed by Alabama and their mediocrity on offense. You need to watch him outside of the few fumbles he forced. He's a very average cover corner.

I respect that..I'm prolly placing too much value in the turnovers he creates..Lombardi does scare me too...But I think it doesn't matter who was in Oakland..Al Davis was running the show...But lets see how we play this draft and free agency before we judge but there is a reason the guy was out of the league for 5 years...I don't know guys...Nothing with this franchise would surprise me:(

The two biggest needs are OLB and CB and they will only be able to fill one in the draft. I expect them to go hard after one in FA and then the other will be the #6 pick. They will try to fill in FS and OG with the other picks.

Any word where Stoneburner is going to fall in the draft? Wouldn't mind seeing him and Boren in the later rounds, but I don't know if the Browns really need another TE that isn't much of a blocker. A TE/FB group of Cameron, Smith (if they resign him), Stoneburner, Smelley, and Boren would be good. Gronks brother looked pretty good in the preseason as well so he might earn a spot as the all around TE if they let Smith walk and don't draft a blocking TE. Norv Turner has always seemed to be more about pass catching TE's than blocking TE's anyway.

I think, given what is in the draft at and around 6, the CB will come from the draft. That means they'll pursue an OLB in FA.

No but Stoney fits the hybrid role pretty well considering his skill set and how TEs are being used these days.

Being a huge college football fan like he is I hope Haslam realizes what no one else in the Browns management ever has and will go after local players if they are pretty much the same as a player from elsewhere. i.e. Boren, Stoney, etc.

I would even look at Dysert from Hot Chick Fredo in a later round if they want a young QB. He impressed me against the Buckeyes last year.

Stoneburner and Cameron have similar skill sets IMO...I am more interested in what we do via free agency....man I wish we could get back into the second round but Gordon was well worth the pick...

I would have no problem moving back to 10-15 as long as we could pull in the 10-15th pick in the 2nd round as well. Nobody should be complaining about not having a 2nd round pick this year, but anything we can do to get into that round should be looked at. Not having that pick makes the FA's much more important. The Browns have 4-5 major holes and only 2 draft picks that you can guarantee should fill them.

If Mathieu was available in the 5th round and checked out ok at the combine I would take him. Same with Denard in the 7th. My scarlet colored glasses draft would be those two, Simon in the 3rd, Stoney, in the 4th, Boren in the 6th, and Milliner at #6. Just have to find an OLB and an OG or two in FA.
