So when's the August swoon going to kick in? Early, middle, or the end of the month?

it doesn't start until they begin their 4 game set with detroit in about a week or so. if this team holds to form, they will win 5 of the next 7 and go into that series with detroit 2 games back, then manage to claw out one of those 4 games and end up 4 back.

that's probably an optimistic scenario.

So, when Peralta gets popped in the Biogenesis thing does he take his lumps now and screw detroit and keep better FA value, or does he try to stall to the end of the season and take it next year.

This assumes that MLB doesn't say, "oh, appeal? ummm... no, too bad you're done for the season"

I asked the same question about a number of players a few pages back and was informed under the CBA that no players can be suspended this year. I do not feel like looking for the post right now but the person who posted it had a direct quote with a link so I guess old Johnny P will be good for this season but next year maybe not so good.

Looks like Peavy will not start tonight....I would say the Indians are catching a break, but the guy starting Instead has a 4.08 ERA in AAA......these spot start guys tend to baffle the Indians

Underwood tries to go all Tom Hamilton, and he ends up sounding like Gomer Pyle on acid.

Nice to see Methuselah hit the homer last night. Doubt it will buy him much more PT, but maybe it should, considering how shitty a lot of the hitters are doing. Would like to see Rayburn, Aviles, even Giambi get more time if the other guys keep sucking the joint up.

Oh, and I predict a 2-2 series against Detroit, then an epic disaster on their next road trip. Wouldn't surprise me if they won 5 or 6 of their next 10, maybe took 2 of 3 from the Angels at home even...then went 1-8 against Minnesota, Oakland and the LaLa's in LA. Add in 1-5 or 0-6 against Atlanta and Detroit the following week, and it won't matter how easy the schedule is in September.

Presuming you're referring to Zippercat's comments on the 10th... and I'd say at that time that was the conventional wisdom... ie before they walked into Ryan Braun and said, "Take this suspension now, shut up, or its gonna get worse." (And of course that's what's happening with A-Rod, too, in the extreme)

Now, I think it goes without saying that Selig has a bigger bone to pick with those guys... and we don't know what they've got on Peralta as far as evidence. But, I think the fact that these are not suspensions as a result of a positive test, tand not under the Dreg testing agreement, I think that might cut both ways. Further the Players association isn't exactly looking like its gonna burn political capital on these first two guys. I think the Players Association has finally gotten to the point where it realizes it represents mostly clean guys... and/or the realization that this is bad. So, long story short, if there's a big pile of slam dunk evidence on Peralta, I could see it being appraoched like Braun, in which case we'll see what happens.

Let me get this straight. They go in to Detroit two games up on them ("detroit 2 games back"), win one of four and yet end up four games behind Detroit? My math says that would put us even...

Also, regarding JP I thought that Braun just took his medicine and did not try to put up a fight. Johnny P might find it if they try to suspend him but I do not know that for a fact..
