Tom Herman (Head Coach FAU Owls)

Disappointed in the playcalling effort today. Continually went to things that had no previous success.

Wisconsin did everything in their power to take Brax out of the game and it was clearly working. For whatever reason Braxton was just not comfortable with anything going on out on the field- very skittish, very timid, really out of sorts.

Would have liked some more Carlos to settle things down.

Agreed. We were very predictable today.

The obvious QB draw plays on 3rd and long with 6 guys on the LOS for Wiscy showing an all-out blitz and an empty backfield made absolutely NO sense, and they did it more than once. That play was completely doomed to fail from the start.

I don't understand some of these routes these receivers are running either. On that one 3rd and 9 I believe, they showed Devin Smith running a freaking 40 yard hitch route... why not just get to the sticks? Some of the routes and passing plays in general are way too slow-developing, and do you really want Miller throwing the ball more than 10 yards in the air anyway? This passing game needs quite a bit of work in the offseason... #1 priority obviously.

Wiscy gave a blueprint of how to stop tOSU to tSUN. Clearly, tSUN plays tendencies. I take heart that tOSU has one of the great offensive minds in football. I remember that the longest run in super bowl history came by running from a formation that the team had only passed from ALL SEASON LONG. The Wiscy game offers an opportunity for Urb to really throw a surprise at tSUN.

was very frustrating watching the offense today. IMO, what I bet can happen sometimes is when a coordinator knows he has a guy that is a difference maker like Braxton I bet it's easy to just say screw this lets just get this guy in space and I bet he'll make a move.

If the game plan isn't an A+ plan against THEM. Then we won't be too happy Sunday morning. As long as Herman goes back to how we were operating for the previous 10 games we'll be fine, but my what a clunker. Gained only 250 yards? damn, that's sad.

They talked about it during the game, but our #2 receivers have been getting huge cushion most of the year as safeties and linebackers move toward the box to account for Braxton.

I'd love to see an automatic toss to an uncovered guy for at least a three or so yard gain.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of the thinking: If we can rush Miller 20+ times, he's so good that he'll eventually break 1 or 2 and get 150+ yards and then we can run some PA off that. But for the first time this season Miller didn't have a big rushing gain and the game plan completely stalled from there on out.

Miller is one of the most dynamic players in the nation and I like to see him get rushes, but not when it's obvious it will not work and won't get you anywhere after 3 Qs.

This is one of two games in which Miller appeared to be confused on many occasions. They bottled him up pretty well, and his frustration showed. I hope that they used the bye week to work on some very powerful stuff for TSUN.

I actually like the way this worked out in the end, because Ohio State will know that there is no time for walking into The Game with an attitude. TSUN is better than many folks around here give them credit, but this can still be a blowout for Ohio State over Hoke.

That's really important because Notre Dame recruiting will go through the roof after this year. Hoke has his players. They are not performing to the hype he was getting at the end of last year.

It's an Ohio State era again, but Coach Herman has to really lift his playcalling and gameplan for The Game.

There were NUMEROUS plays that Braxton kept the ball when he should have given it to Carlos.
Most notably the play when all the receivers run blocked and Braxton kept it and tried looking to throw.
Don't fault Herman for Braxton's tenative play...

I want to believe they were just holding things back for TSUN, or guys were looking ahead ,but when you see wide-receivers not getting open it's disheartening. Brax can't carry this team in every game.
That was a mediocre Wiscy team. 7 points by the offense in regulation is bad. Some credit does go to Wiscy's defense for smothering our receivers and making Brax indecisive but we should have beat them by a couple TDs.
On to our Bowl game next week! And we are still unbeaten! :oh:

Glad we're 11-0 but...

That was the worst 2-week prep job on offense. A couple of drives we were moving the ball very well on them and then he calls that empty backfield twice and nearly cost us the game. Defense should have been a lot more aggressive as well with a very unexperienced QB. Braxton has to learn that his attitude on the field affects the team a lot. He can't come in looking like he just woke up and have that I don't want to be here look on his face and expect great things to happen. I don't understand why he gets in that mode every now and then. He was lights out against PSU but not Wisconsin and during a couple of other games. He comes in OT, he has that fire in his eyes, game-over.
They made it through, so great job on the road, let's finish the job. The rise of Gardner (which Tressel passed up on?!) has been very impressive. The defense can not give him time or he will kill them.
