Griffin Signs With Ohio State Football
Columbus native 19th to join Buckeye recruiting class

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Adam Griffin, a terrific all-around athlete from St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend The Ohio State University.

A 5-9, 185-lb. running back, defensive back and return specialist, Griffin helped DeSales advance to the 2009 state championship game. An all-district and all-Columbus metro selection playing for Coach Ryan Wiggins? Stallions, the honor roll student is also a basketball starter at DeSales.

?Adam Griffin has a passion to be an Ohio State Buckeye,? says Coach Jim Tressel. ?He will add a great deal to our football family on the field, in the locker room and on our campus. Adam clearly understands the privilege of being an Ohio State Buckeye.?

Adam is the son of Bonita and Archie Griffin; Archie, a Buckeye Hall of Famer and the only two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy, lettered from 1972-75 at Ohio State.

Griffin a Late Addition to the 2010 Class | Eleven Warriors

By Jason - February 11th, 2010

Unlike their southern brethren, the Buckeyes typically don?t use their full allotment of schollies when signing a a new class, preferring to hold one or two to reward a walk-on that has put in hard work on the practice field.

In a slight variation to this, Jim Tressel and staff have offered a scholarship to running back Adam Griffin of St. Francis DeSales in Columbus, making him the 19th member of the class. A smallish (5-9/185) running back, Griffin helped lead the Stallions to the 2009 state championship game on the way to earning all-district honors. He?s also a hero in the classroom, earning offers from all three service academies.

Perhaps most importantly, however, Adam is the son of the President and CEO of Ohio State University Alumni Association, or the guy we fondly remember as being the only two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy.

Tressel on the newest Buckeye:

"Adam Griffin has a passion to be an Ohio State Buckeye," says Coach Jim Tressel. "He will add a great deal to our football family on the field, in the locker room and on our campus. Adam clearly understands the privilege of being an Ohio State Buckeye."

Well, he will have to redshirt and bulk up, but in 3-4 years folks will be asking why we ever offered Henderson.

Kidding aside, I am happy with this one. He may be from that pool of recruits where only one in a few make an impact, but no reason to believe he wont be the one. And wouldn't that be something?

I can see him actually contributing here some day.. His height actually looks accurate to me and he's got moves and definitely has vision. It's in his blood....

He had offers from Air Force, Army, Navy, and Eastern Illinois according to Rivals.

So awesome...

Stupid question: Rivals isn't listing an offer, but is listing him as committed. Is going coming in as a walk on? Can walk ons sign LOIs? Congrats to Adam.

Edit: I see the 11W article that says he has been offered a scholarship. My question still stands, can walk ons still sing an LOI?

According to scout.com:

Griffin has the initial quickness out of his stance you like to see and shows above average instincts and vision. While he’s not built to be a pound it up the middle back he’s willing to do so when called upon. What makes Griffin special is his outside ability to hit and turn the corner. The question that will always follow Griffin is his physical build and if he can hold up at the next level.
