DB Christian Bryant (Official Thread)

These are the kinds of things that get my conspiracy antenna a-tinglin'.

I have no evidence or rationale to go on, but the piling on that seems to happen to guys associated with The Ohio State University sometimes make me wonder if there are folks pulling strings that we can't see. I refuse to believe that we're as delusional as the Domers' faithful or (more recently) State Penn's crowd, so the only choice I have is to accept that shit's just not right.

Do I really think this is happening? Probably not... but it's hard not to fall in that mindset.

They are a B1G decision and there is nothing concrete about the rules. They are guidelines and then the league decides what they feel like doing.

We do indeed feed the B1G more than any other school. While we should've deserve any real special treatment, we shouldn't be [Mark May] upon either. I'd like to know the real no-[Mark May] reason why Bryant's medshirt was denied...

The conferences can only grant medical waivers based on the criteria in the NCAA manual. They are not allowed to make exemptions.

14.2.4 Hardship waiver.
c) In team sports, the injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than three contests or dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport) or 30 percent (whichever number is greater) of the institution’s scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition in his or her sport.

Based on this criteria, Bryant does not qualify. However, Bryant may still appeal to the NCAA Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. They are able to make exemptions based on circumstances of extraordinary or extreme hardship, such as injuries in previous seasons.

14.2.4.2.1 Review of Denied Waiver. A conference that denies an institution’s hardship waiver may submit the waiver to the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. The committee shall have the authority to review and determine whether to approve the waiver based on circumstances that may warrant relief from the application of the legislated waiver criteria.

30% of 14 games is 4.2. This number gets rounded up to five, so unless he participated in six or more games, he should meet the criteria.

Didn't think you could count the CCG or the bowl game ( while the chances of us NOT making those games was extremely low). We only had scheduled at the beginning of the season 12 games which would mean 30% = 4 Games, Wisky was #5, meaning he wouldn't be eligible

... They aren't clear really, but its the NCAA.

no matter which way you slice it sucks.

Congrats for Christian on getting drafted by the Rams. I think he has a chance to stick around in the league.

I would have liked to seen how our season played out last year if he stayed healthy. We are least playing for a national championship imo. I knew it was going to be hard to replace him but I didn't realize at the time how catastrophic an injury that was.
