DB Jayme Thompson (Transfer to Iowa Western; Indiana Verbal)

Cool story, but save it for the field. Can't afford to get hurt and end his college career before it starts. We need Jayme in the secondary not on the sidelines healing up after get his jaw broken or whatever.

Not sure if serious. If so you couldn't be more wrong. Too often we fail to do the right thing when faced with a situation that requires an intervention. I applaud Jayme and his dad for doing the right thing when the situation called for it. Him and his father are class acts. It is a joke to suggest he shouldn't have helped because he can't afford to get hurt. "We" don't need Jayme. And he doesn't owe "us" anything. It's just a game. We need more people like Jayme, not less. The attitude that he shouldn't have done what was right because to not act would have been better for his football career, and by extension better for our beloved football team is the same mentality that pervades Happy Valley. It's just a matter of degree. (If you were being sarcastic and this flew over my head, I apologize).

No worries. They don't call them the silver bullet defense for nothing.

No sarcasam intented here. It's just my perspective on this but he could have been injured being a good samaritan. No one is questioning his mettle. Don't start drawing comparisons to Penn State and football mentality. You are over thinking this. I would really like to see him play and not miss a single practice because of an off the field injury. I'm glad he helped out, I'm also glad he didn't get hurt in the process. It's as simple as that. That's what blew over your head.

Speaking for myself, I would not want kids who are willing to stand by and watch bad things go down without trying to do the RIGHT thing. That's how stuff like Stuebenville happens.

It reveals his character to know he did what he did here while knowing he has everything on a platter.

and the cop or people in the grocery store could've been hurt, robbed, etc

Should he go around seeking out danger? No.

Should he restrain himself from helping someone in peril because it might interfere with his football career? No. That's a pretty backwards way to go through life.
I would really like to see him play and not miss a single practice because of an off the field injury.
That is what's most important :so:
I'm glad he helped out
Doesn't sound like it.

Selfishly it would be better for OSU & us fans if future buckeyes stopped driving in cars with teenagers, stopped playing winter & spring sports, stopped being a senior in HS and enrolled early and stopped interceding during kerfuffles, but that doesn't mean it's the right thing for the kid.

I suppose we all face that moral dilemna at times in our lives. I will concede to the moral high ground here, his action shows a side of his personality that is honorable and courageous. That translates well to more that just football.

Jiu jitsu gives Ohio State-bound Thompson a leg up on foes
BY DAVID BRIGGS
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

The football prospect and the black belt are fighting again.

Some day, Jayme Thompson is sure he will hold off the master?s go-to triangle choke, counter with a submission move of his own ? say, the guillotine or a straight ankle lock ? and make his father tap out.

"Probably after that summer weight training," said Thompson, a Central Catholic senior who will play football at Ohio State next season.

But this recent training session is not that day.

"I don?t see it happening," Deon Thompson said with a smile. "I?ll get older and smarter."

For the past dozen years, father and son have bonded over an unlikely pastime: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Deon, a former All-City League basketball player at DeVilbiss, is an accomplished instructor, while Jayme, a four-star safety who helped the Fighting Irish capture the Division II state championship this season, credits the discipline in part to his football success.

Even now, Jayme?s training includes a steady regimen of lifting, plyometrics, and ... clock chokes. Though football intervened with his one-time cage-fighting ambitions, he still hones his blue-belt skills three nights per week in Deon?s classes at Ohio Brasa Brazilian Jiu Jitsu inside Premier Martial Arts on Monroe Street.

"If you asked anybody, I?m a real aggressive kid, so this is just really fun to do," Jayme said. "And it?s always nice to be able to protect yourself."

Selfishly I cringe too, because he is a commodity to the football program.

That doesn't mean he should suppress the courage and will to act.

Props to the young man! How many people will simply stand by and allow events like this happen. Great character and courage. He is definetly a great asset to the community.
