S Vonn Bell (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Carolina Panthers)

Vonn Bell signing from the UT perspective:
http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2013/feb/10/osus-lead-for-bell-too-much-for-vols/?sportspreps

[tOSU was] impressive by showing up in our locker room before and after the state championship game, and Coach Meyer sat with Vonn's mom during the game. They even had two assistants (defensive coordinator Luke Fickell and secondary coach Everett Withers) at our awards banquet. Every opportunity they had to have somebody here or in contact with Vonn, they did it." ....
"Vonn wants to go somewhere to beat Alabama. He respects their program and what Coach Saban has built, but he wants to beat them.

It takes a mature kid to go with your head over your heart at that age. This kid has a chance to be really special if he works hard. You can tell from his offensive highlights he's also great once he gets the ball in his hands. I think he'll be the leader of the secondary in a couple years. Would love to see him be an Ed Reed type of leader for this defense in the years to come.

You couldn't even think of a Buckeye? How about some guy named Mike Doss? He turned out to be an ok Safety for us.

Without a doubt...THIS! It's hard enough waiting on one of our kids to be able to rename the Percy Harvin role. We most certainly have no need to use a player from any other school to define any position on the defense.

No offense to you or centralMo, but doss was a hard hitting S known more for laying the wood than playing in coverage and being a ball hawk. Bell compares far more to reed, imo, than doss. Idk when weve had an athlete at S that went after the ball like reed. And theres no slight to doss, but reed was more of an athlete than doss, in college amd the nfl. Bell can hit, but not like doss, hes great cover guy who some have even said could play CB, doss was pure S that hit like a LB. Comparisons are comparisons, no need to take them personal because a guy isnt compared to a former buckeye.

I'd be happy if Vonn turned into a Doss level of safety, but I'd be ecstatic if he turned into an Ed Reed, ball hawk, always seems to be in the right spot on every play, makes the tackle before the trying to knock someone out, type of safety.

To put things into perspective, I'm much more glad we have Vonn Bell, and not Taylor Mays. Mays always went for the knockout hit in college. He was decent in college, not great. With Vonn Bell's coverage ability, I actually like the comparisons to Ed Reed whether he's a scumbag or not, he's easily one of the best in the game.

I don't care what type of person he is, we're talking about playing styles, and Ed Reed is one of the best safeties in the NFL, so Bell comes close to that, then that would be amazing

The original post bringing up Ed Reed was by Buckeye Nut. He hoped that Vonn would be the type of leader that Reed is/was. It might just be me, but I wouldn't want to be compared in that way to a scumbag like Reed.
