DE Noah Spence (Official Thread)

No way...not with a healthy Nathan Williams.

Agree.

Spence had some good plays and a nice sack in his first game, but Im not sure if that warrants starting over a guy like Williams or the other starters. Lets ease the kid into the game. Just my opinion though, Im not an OSU coach.

A 100% or near-100% Nate Williams is still better--right now--than Noah. Now, Noah may be better when he becomes a senior than Williams is as a senior, but Williams is still better at this point. The thing with Noah is that when he does come in to spell Williams there's next to no dropoff...

It is thrilling to see Nathan out there, but it's pretty clear he isn't his old self. Fortunately OSU can really benefit from a 75% Williams. Any progress from that percentage is gravy.

As for Spence, he is definitely still learning, but it wasn't a coincidence that his increased PT coincided with a sharp uptick in pressure. Early in the game Spence was on the sidelines and Dysert had all day. They simply chipped or rolled away from Simon.

Barring setback Williams will progress through the year. Anything close to the '09 form (remember the Wisconsin game?) will truly make this defensive line elite.

I don't really think it matters who starts. How many teams have the depth at D-line that allows them to rotate 5-7 guys with little-to-no drop off in talent? That is what excites me most about this defense. The same five offensive linemen lining up over and over against a rotation of 5-7 highly talented, highly physical and angry defensive linemen. If you are an offensive lineman, that shit is going to get old over 4 quarters.

I think we should get all 9 or 10 on the field... AT ONCE! It's like in Madden when you call for a punt block defense on first and 10. Best 11!!!!!!11!!!!!!+1!!!!! BARWIS!!!!! Oh crap, soiled myself again.
