DE Noah Spence (Official Thread)

Meyer is casting a pretty big catch net for DE's. That speak volumes about what he observed on defense.

It does'nt take a rocket scientist to figure out that when you are playing Hankins at DE you lack depth.

Yeah we lose Williams in the second game and there went any threat of a consistent pass rush.
Not good when you have no real second and third option at DE. Simon can't do it all on his own from the DT position. I'm sure that was pretty glaring when Urban watched film of the team.

Nor does it take the same scientist to figure out where the apostrophe fits.

Besides that, I think UFM's recruiting strategy at DE has more to do with overall infiltration of talent rather than immediate depth. I don't believe he's going to be counting on these guys to contribute next year considering we're bringing Williams back.

You can't count on Williams to be the same player if he's coming off micro fracture surgery.

I think its a little of both but more to the immediate impact side of the spectrum.

Regardless, I hope he loads up and we get to find out.

If we land Noah and/or a few of the other DEs were going after, I wonder if the staff would maybe move Nate to LB. The LEO is a hybrid and he looks good in coverage. I say this because you want your best 11 on the field. Noah is a instant impact guy that we need to get on the field.

It's tough for any true freshman to be a 3 down player on the defensive line.....very rare. Is Spence a rare player? Absolutely, but we have to keep our expectations in check.

You want to put him in good situations and build his development reasonably. Get him in on pass rush situations but I'd be shocked to see Spence, if we land him (and I expect to from everything I've heard from UF sources), be a starter his freshman year.

Bishop McDevitt DE Noah Spence schedules official visit to Ohio State
ANDREW P. SHAY, The Patriot-News, December 05, 2011

One of the country?s sough-after recruits at his position, Bishop McDevitt defensive end Noah Spence, has not taken an official recruiting visit this fall.

That will change later this month.

The 6-4, 245-pound senior is scheduled to visit Ohio State on December 17 ? one day after the PIAA Class AAA championship game.

Spence?s father Greg confirmed the ?official? visit Monday evening.

Recently honored as the Gatorade Pennsylvania Football Player of the Year, Spence has 90 tackles, 26 tackles for a loss and 11 sacks this season. The Crusaders play Montour Friday in the PIAA Class AAA semifinals.

Ohio State was not on Spence?s original list of finalists he announced prior to the season. Penn State, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State and USC were the schools Spence was most interested in.

With the hiring of former Florida coach Urban Meyer as the new skipper of the Buckeyes, Ohio State is now part of the picture.

Spence is slated to make his final decision January 5 at the Under Armour All-American Game in Tampa.

The way Bob Lichtenfels explained is that if he keeps that announcement date and his team keeps winning this could be the only free weekend he has to take an official visit...

And now I see BK has it too:

BN $ - Spence: OSU Gets First & Last Shot?

12/5

His dad says this will be his first visit and potentially his last.

i said "potentially"

With the way we have closed in the past, I think there is still some lingering apprehension around these parts  Either way, LOVE where this one is heading. I feel Spence will know where he is going after Dec. 17th.
