DE Noah Spence (Official Thread)

Considering what some football players have been guilty of lately (not mentioning anyone specifically...florida state) I'm fine with this kid getting as many chances as anyone can give him. Except for the repercussions from laws & regulations that pertained to his choices, he didn't harm anyone but himself.

A great deal of the people who get cut off from their positive influences, such as football for Spence, tend to downward spiral quickly into much worse situations. The best thing for Spence is to be able to try and focus on his studies and be out there working with the team everyday filling his time with positive influence.

BINGO. Very important to maintain a support system of people that care about you and our players/staff are just that. Keeping him working out, practicing, and going to team meetings will help get him better imo, regardless of whether he ever plays another snap here or not.

Reading that Urb is talking about what is going on in the NFL right now and using that as teaching moments as well as what we suspect is going on here makes a lot of sense. I'm sure that this is all hard enough for NS, but if he's got his guys behind him, it might be enough to be the difference maker in his life. Learning moment for every one, they've got a good teacher for sure.

FWIW, I hope not. It looked like he came out of the tunnel with the team yesterday. A couple players came out at the end just wearing a jersey (and street clothes), one was #8. I couldn't positively verify (i.e. read/see) the name on the back being up in C deck, but it did look like it was Spense.

I saw JT Moore (#8) in uniform but not pads on TV yesterday. I saw the #8 and thought it was Spence at first too, but it was Moore.

OK, at he start of tonight's game (i.e. Bearcraps) I saw 2 #8s run out on the field just wearing a jersey and street clothes. I wasn't able to see the names on their back due to the distance and the smoke; however, one had to be Spence.

What, no pads? I thought you were supposed to come out in pads when you're suspended.

Dress in pads, come out and warm up, and expect your suspension to be totally lifted by kick-off. I mean, if you can get away with rape (allegedly), petty theft, and destruction of property with no consequences, how can you fathom being suspended just for exercising free speech and goofing around?

I'm beginning to think that the loss of Spence is more problematic than I initially realized. I was somewhat concerned about him being out for the year, but I felt like we had a deep and talented O-line with 3 All-American caliber players in Bosa, Washington and Bennett, and that we would be fine even without Spence. While I think we're still fine along the line, I think the place Spence's loss is really affecting us is in the secondary. We don't have another speed rusher on the edge that is quite like Spence, and the pressure he can provide, especially on obvious passing downs, can't be replicated with anyone else on the squad, especially after we lost Marcus in the off season. The secondary is clearly a problem right now, and more pressure on the QB is one way to hide that, to some extent. Especially with the high-pressure defense that Ash likes to run, Spence would have been really valuable and hidden some of our warts in the secondary.

His presence alone would have helped Bennet and Washington get inside pressure.

Agreed. From a run stopping standpoint it's probably minimal, but Miller just isn't Spence when it comes to a pass rush. I'm just hopeful he can get clean and come back next year. We could be in line for a truly magical season if some key juniors return. Spence is one of those too, just in a different way.

Spence was the only junior that I really expected to leave at the end of the year. On offense I don't see any juniors that are showing they'll be capable at the end of the year. On defense washington could probably go but I think he has more to prove, and perry is the only one I would put as potentially in that category, but he'd have to make some crazy improvements. If we see Spence next year it I expect the only loss we'll really feel is Bennett, and that can be mitigated. Spencer, Smith and Heurman on offense will hurt, but I think we can easily replace them with how well we've recruited offense skill guys. I think with how well we've recruited defense we can replace Doran and Curtis Grant, though it may be a little bumpy. Really special team next year, and having Spence healthy is a huge part of it.

As far as Bennett, I think Hill is a sleeping giant and as far as D.Grant and C.Grant, it would be an instant upgrade as far as athletic ability and playmaking

As far as Spence's replacement, Miller is just our there IMO. I would be perfectly fine with Rashad Frazier and Jalyn Holmes, especially Holmes
