Elyria?s Tracy Sprinkle is trying to turn tragedy into triumph

A teenager isn?t often forced to experience the lowest of life?s lows followed by the highest of life?s highs within a matter of months. But such was the case for Elyria senior Tracy Sprinkle.

Sprinkle?s world was shattered in December when his older brother Jamelro Hicks was shot and killed during an argument in Cleveland.

?It was a huge devastation,? Sprinkle said ?It?s a tough thing, it?s still something I?m dealing with. I think about him daily, and I know my family does, too. I try not to think about it too much because I might just break down.?

It?s a rare glimpse into the pain Sprinkle manages to keep hidden from those who know him best. He manages to stay upbeat while playing video games with friends, tweeting to the universe and delivering punishing hits on the football field.

Those hits are what helped the defensive end earn that high point ? a scholarship offer from Urban Meyer to play for Ohio State.

?It was pretty exciting because growing up I was always a big Ohio State fan,? Sprinkle said. ?When I first talked to them it was with the former staff, with (Coach Jim) Tressel. Then the new staff came on, and I was pretty excited when they called me and said they were still interested in me.?

He gave his oral commitment in April.

A dream come true. Four months after his greatest nightmare.

Rated #1 by The Plain Dealer over the likes of Gedeon, Gibson, Douglas, Munger, Trubisky, etc. Sprinkle and Bosa are going to be the real deal at the next level, IMO.

One would think. Depending on how he handles coach mick. Most expected Diesel Washington to grow into a DT but not many expected him to put on ~35-40 pounds before he arrived at camp.

It will just depend on how his body handles the increased strength. My preference, given his high motor, is to put him at DT. Major theme here is Versatility.

In his high school's two scrimmages, he had something like 10 TFL and 5 sacks as well. Kid is really flying under the radar, but is a very nice prospect.

High school football: Elyria finishes off Amherst with a flourish

"We came out slow," said Pioneers senior Tracy Sprinkle, who had two sacks and a number of tackles. "We thought they would let us run over them. Amherst is a good team. We had to come back from a little adversity."

INADVERTENT SACK: Sprinkle, who is headed to Ohio State next year, was credited with an unusual sack Lamb appeared to break loose from Sprinkle's grab and head up field early in the fourth quarter only to hear the officials' whistle blow the play dead, crediting Sprinkle with an 11-yard sack instead of what might have been a first down. Elyria's lead was 42-28 at that point, but the game soon turned into a rout.

Still the most under appreciated recruit in this class, IMO. Kid is going to be a STUD.

One of the things that didn?t change for Elyria?s defense was the outstanding play of senior defensive lineman Tracy Sprinkle ? an Ohio State recruit ? as he had six of the Pioneers? nine sacks, several quarterback hurries and knockdowns and a forced fumble, which teammate Paul Males recovered.

?We knew they had some great offensive linemen ? we knew that Jeremy Holley was a great player, too,? Sprinkle said. ?But we all came out and played hard tonight. I knew every down that I had to get in there and keep pressure on him.?

Sprinkle lined up over center, at defensive tackle and on the ends of the line throughout the course of the game.

?It was nice to be able to go against every one of their linemen,? he said.

He broke through double teams and managed to add a seventh tackle for loss on one of Elyria Catholic?s five runs in the game.

Thanks to the sacks, Elyria held the Panthers to minus-33 total rushing yards ? a stat that can?t have opponents who rely on their running attack feeling good about their future matchup with the Pioneers.

?Tracy was a big factor in the first half,? Fell said. ?The only thing that could slow Tracy down was I thought he had a collapsed lung at the end of the first half. He was running all over the place.?

wadc45 and Tracy's early season performance has me convinced. Stud.

He's already a fiery and competitive guy (which Urban loves) but if he doesn't rise up the rankings that's an even rpfurther chip to carry on his shoulder when he hits campus...

Tyquan Lewis? commitment to Ohio State came with a big thumbs up from one of the top defensive tackles in Northeast Ohio.

Tracy Sprinkle (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) couldn?t help but smile after hearing the news about Lewis (Tarboro, N.C./Tarboro).

?That was a big commitment,? Sprinkle said. ?I?ve played with him before. He?s a great guy. He should help us out a lot.?
